I never really know where to fall on the pc culture debate. On one hand If you're black you've heard people excuse blatant racism as people being too PC but if you ever read uproxx you've seen peak outrage culture. I knew I had to stop visiting that site when they ran a story about people being mad about toy manufacturers mis-gendering a Jurassic park dinosaur toy that was a female dinosaur in the movie apparently.

I try to be mindful and not purposely offensive but I don't expect others to do the same and I wish that some of y'all edgier brehs would just accept whatever label you're given. Weather people label you a c00n, bigot, sexist whatever live with it, it doesn't really matter. You have made it this far in life with those thoughts and opinions and as long as you fit in with a community IRL you'll be fine.

As for the television debate about what would fly we've had a lot of edgier content out there that wouldn't fly then. The music of today wouldn't fly but it's this weird thing where we want to assume no matter how horrible something is it's inclusive. Like a rapper can rap about killing, selling drugs, bytches and nikka but as soon as they say something sexist or homophobic outside of music they're cancelled.

I don’t know when it started but PC culture as it exists today is a result of the increased social value of oppression made possible by the left wing media. There was - and is - a number of legitimately oppressed groups in America. Some of those groups provided so much culture to this country that their coolness became closely associated with their oppression. And later on, other (less culturally valuable) groups latched on to the concept.

It started with blacks - and around that same time - Jews. Both were oppressed worldwide. With that said, African American music culture couldn’t be denied. Everything anybody listened to and danced to was invented in some way by blacks. We cornered the market on western music. Meanwhile, the Jews in America flew west to a small town called Hollywood, CA and started making films. The cultural contributions shaped the society at large.

By the 70s, Black culture was super mainstream. The slang, music and fashion molded the time period. By the 80s, hip hop culture took over. And for the next 30-40 years black culture would be in an upward trajectory in relevance. It was during this time that the narrative began to be written; an oppressed minority group that used its limited opportunities to create great art and culture that would change the world. Using two turntables and a mic because funds were cut for music class in city schools; cool drug dealers with big chains and watches who only took that path in life because they grew up poor; oppression itself became covered in coolness.

After awhile, other groups came into the fold. Gay culture grew in popularity. People who were judged for who they love responded to hate with powerful slang, fashion and art. And then feminism (of the 3rd wave variety); sexual liberation, female autonomy, equality of opportunity between sexes.

After awhile, being oppressed became the shyt. It became a cool article of clothing. This resulted in other groups realizing that and wanting a piece of the action - whether the group is actually oppressed or not. PC culture is just fashionable oppression.
