Back in the days people weren't fukking with andre more than big boi so I don't get it..

to me it looks like people started to call him the goat when he stopped rapping & made a pop album

Millennium.

When I heard that, he passed him. That was the point I was like, "wait, Andre ill foreal"
And it seem like from that point on. He has been out of this world.

When Pharrell & Kanye shifted the culture & made the 'other' negroe popular his status was elevated and history was re-written.

+ the industry was always pushing kast, the things that are common now, the disconnected between critics & fans, they were the prototype of that. we just rejected them, yall follow what they say, kendrick is a goat, yeezus was a goat album, odd future the new wu tang :mjlol: etc

You don't know what the fukk your talking about lol.

Hating negroes do that a lot on here. Just be talking. Just be hating, cause it's one of they favorite things to do.

You view lyricism very simplistically if you consider Pun a better lyricist than 3000.

nope. The only mainstream one that would come with a different point of view was q-tip.

His lyrical ability isn't blown out of proportion... you just dont listen.

Plus Scarface fathered most East-coast rappers styles period.

I believe it was when Eminem named him in his Top 5...I just can't recall when. After that everybody and their mother wanted to namedrop him as one of the GOATs.

I have to dap and rep for this. I largely believe this to be true. However I will disagree that everyone thought Big Boi was better back in the days. On ATLiens people were going nuts over pretty much every Andre verse on the album. Granted I was too young to know what reactions were to the first album for for sure on ATLiens the consensus among everyone I knew (I mean we were kids in school in NC) was that Andre was MJ and Big Boi was Pippen.

That fool @NvrCMyNut already admitted he started listening to hip-hop in 99, outkast had three albums out by then so I wouldn't take his opinion on this topic seriously.

:mjlol: @ eminem mentioning 3000 being the turning point

People been stanning 3 stacks since Atliens

I remember being young as hell and everybody reciting his last verse on Elevators

Without a doubt. I have heard people out of the south though say that Eminem saying it is when it became fashionable for everyone and their mother to start putting him at the top of their lists and what not. I mean he was in my top 3 when ATLiens dropped, but I was a kid in the south, so I don't really have a perspective on what that album was like for everyone else. I remember them at the 95 Source awards getting pretty much ignored and boo'd because they weren't from NY.

It kind of started with the Source nominating him for lyricist of the year at the 1999 Source Awards. So you could say, it started with Aquemini, which was their biggest album at the time. Then it ballooned once he changed his name from Dre to Andre 3000. From there it slowly escalated to him being considered a GOAT contender with:

- Stankonia launching OutKast into super-stardom

- Eminem listing him as one of the best

-Andre withdrawing from rap in favor of singing to express himself. This made a lot of people appreciate the rapping more

- "Mighty O" coming out of nowhere and Andre pretty much saying he was "king"

- The plethora of features that followed "Mighty O"

Kast fans already appreciated the work. He was already some people's favorite, but it was more so understated then. Personally, Kast's song "Everlasting" did it for me. I don't know why, but his verse just stood out There was also "In Due Time". So when Andre started getting hailed as one of the best, it wasn't surprising. The only thing surprising is that Big Boi isn't held in high regard being he was the more popular member.

Daps, pos rep. Good breakdown.

:dwillhuh:

I had their debut the day it dropped. People always thought Andre was superior....hell, people thought that from "Player's Ball" alone.

If nikkas don't rock with 3k I have no issue with that but some posters in are trying to rewrite history n shyt. That nikka said pharrell and kanye made him popular like he hadn't been dope for a decade already at that point with three (joint) classics under his belt. The premise of the thread is when did the outrageous dikkriding start and its answered a few times already in this thread it was around the time he started killing features left right and centre.

"Your white tee well to me look like a nightgown
Make your mama proud take that thang a few sizes down"

I remember a whole thread dedicated to those two lines over on the IC and even as a long time fan I was surprised and the love he was gettin.
