I think most hiphop heads realised Andre Benjamin was one of the best to ever do it around the time the Source gave Aquemini 5 mics.
I for one listened again and again to that album then the rest of the catalogue and and started to hear not just the potency of Dre's rhymes but how good the ONP and Earthtone 3 (Dre , Bb and Mr DJ) production was.

After Andre then killed his features on the rest of the DF releases (Goodie Mob, Cool Breeze, Witchdoctor).... by the time Stankonia dropped I for one almost knew Outkast would break boundaries and they did, plus had commericial hits and the world took notice...

...but with sucess came the haters.

The features you guys are all refereing to... you are late!!!!

Andre is easy top 5. Yes he doesnt have a solo but he hasnt dropped a lazy rhyme period, he educates, doesnt brag.... and according to most that saw Outkast recently has the best stage presence and clarity going.

Y'all are stupid. Andre was always a great emcee. People just slept on him for a while. It's as simple as that. lol@you goofy ass dudes talking about this or that guest feature 15 years deep into his career, or an Eminem lyric.

This is like when people try to discredit Jay Z by talking about the impact of RD when it dropped. Well RD was a classic and Jay Z was a top-tier emcee...people just missed the boat and didn't fully appreciate it until later.

Andre was just ahead of the curve. You can argue that him on ATLiens is the greatest display of lyricism on an album ever.

There were a lot of people that were big Outkast fans and already felt that way about Andre from the jump...but the mainstream caught on 1st cuz of Eminem's list and 2nd cuz of Hey Ya.

Stack always been dope he's the father of that introspective left field shyt thats replaced aggressive content these days.

Imo the waggonists really hopped on after the walk it out remix and all the features he killed since then.

So A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and The Pharcyde don't exist? :what:

nope. The only mainstream one that would come with a different point of view was q-tip.

His lyrical ability isn't blown out of proportion... you just dont listen.

Plus Scarface fathered most East-coast rappers styles period.

Another thing to add is that Stankonia was the first time a lot of people heard a solo Andre song. That "?" was probably also a catalyst in the same manner that "West Savannah" kind of propelled Big Boi into the more sought after solo artist. I mean, Big Boi was getting a lot features immediately after Aquemini where it took Andre more time to be sought after like that, but "?" was a moment for him.

if he doesnt know what hes talking about, then explain why instead of throwing out a bunch of insults.

and dont try to pull anything out ya ass either breh. cuz it'll get rejected on site.

So you protecting nikkas from Internet insults. When he came in here with no real point, just to insult a rapper who has accomplished more than any of us lol. Word.

He don't know what he talking about cause Pharell and kanye didn't influence Outkast or 3staks. If anything, it was the other way around.

Being that 96 is when Outkast and Andre flew into national superstardom...

Like a previous poster said, his last verse on elevators was everyone's favorite.

And like I said previously, millennium is when I realized how ill he was, again, before Kanye west moved from his mommas basement.

Outkast definitely wasn't pushed until they broke through. They handed out their own cds in crown royal bags during Freaknik. It was as organic as it gets.

So saying that we find Andre to be a dope rapper because it's an agenda pushed by labels isn't true. Saying MEDIA hype or a white boy is the reason we think he is dope ain't true. The white boy is the reason white people ( and people who didn't listen to rap until the white boy) think he is one of the best ever.

Any body with two ears, half a brain, and some real rap knowledge in that brain.... Will tell you that 3stacks been Ill. And it's not hype. But you would have had to actually played Outkast shyt to have that opinion.

im not protecting anybody. im just tired out outkast fanatics either running for cover or hurling insults when certain things are said. and yes, he made a very valid point.

he didnt say that pharrell & kanye influenced outkast. what hes saying is, alot of these newfound rap fans that are into those guys are amonst the main ones that are placing outkast on a pedestal that they didnt stand on in real-time.

lol @ the bolded. outkas were not no dam superstars in '96, but they sure as hell had the same amount of promotion as some of the actual superstars, which eliminates your whole theory of outkast not being pushed. they were pushed hard from the very beginning. they were the 2nd rap priority of the laface/arista regime for goodness sakes.

atliens was everybodies favorite verse on what planet? atllanta?:pachaha:

i never said anything about that anything argument and i dont recall dude i quoted mentioning it either so why are you arguing with me about it? i found it laughable and didnt even know about that until a recent similar thread.

If nikkas don't rock with 3k I have no issue with that but some posters in are trying to rewrite history n shyt. That nikka said pharrell and kanye made him popular like he hadn't been dope for a decade already at that point with three (joint) classics under his belt. The premise of the thread is when did the outrageous dikkriding start and its answered a few times already in this thread it was around the time he started killing features left right and centre.
"Your white tee well to me look like a nightgown
Make your mama proud take that thang a few sizes down"

I remember a whole thread dedicated to those two lines over on the IC and even as a long time fan I was surprised and the love he was gettin.

he didnt say they may him popular.

yea, he was dope in the '90s, but he wasnt seen as a top emcee or artist for the time. so him suddenly being thrusted into ALL-TIME goat convos by certain segments of listeners is beyond corny.

:scusthov:
that verse was wick-wick-wack. same with most of his verses during that time that were getting praised on message boards as if they were the greatest verses ever.

i couldnt take that stuff seriously, and to this day, ive never heard anyone call andre a goat IRL. its always just the media & social media/forums.

Whatever the yute said it was along those lines and the fact he hasn't been back to defend his own statement indicates he knows he's not built for this convo

@ the bolded thats more or less what I said in my first post in this thread, he been dope and waggonists hopped on late as fukk.

If walk it out verse was wack which verses do you actually like? Cuz you would have to be a dumb fukk to go as hard as you have in this thread without doing more than skim-listening to the music

But Atliens was not my favorite verse. I said he had they favorite verse on elevatora

And it's not a valid point. Him saying new found rap fans that like PHARELL and kanye jus show he don't listen to Outkast. Ain't nothing Pharell or kanye about Outkast music but Andre clothes. The fans of Outkast from the 90's and early 2000's are street nikkas. Aware of political issues and the plight of the black man etc. Artistic but southern and playa.

And im starting to think you don't know what your talking about either. Atliens came out in 96 and elevators put them on the next level. But. If you saying they wasn't superstars and was being promoted by Laface like Laface was is known for breaking the budget. You just said they was the second priority. Outkast. Outkast made hit records. It wasn't a machine that made us like Outkast or think Andre is dope. They're music and fans made them number 1. Best new artist. Then Atliens came out. How is it a pedestal he didn't stand on in real time?

He wasn't seen as a top mc in the 90's to who? You up top nikkas (I am assuming) nikkas blew up as pac died. They sold records and had the impact of pac and biggie and they still alive??

He got verse that people like, you ain't gotta think he the best, but people do. Not being a hating as nikka is respecting the fact that Outkast and Andre are legends and in the greatest of all time category.
Andre got timeless verses and timeless songs.
