Was it when Cena got rejected hard at Taboo Tuesday 05 and they kept pushing him hard? Was it the Bret screwed Bret mantra he kept selling as truth? The botched WCW VS WWF angle post WM 17? The odd usage of the Nwo in 2002? Was it when he had Cripple H run roughshed over Raw from Sept 2002 to the huge Batista push in 05? Was it when he didn't push Punk all the way in 2011? Was it when he held Bryan back in Team Hell No post WM 28 when fans cheered him nonstop? Or is it simply...things haven't been the same since Rock went to Hollywood and Austin had to retire?

When did he stop being the innovative Vince that was on fire creatively from 99-2001 in particular?
'Bret screwed Bret' legitimately helped him become the on screen character that was possibly the biggest drawing heel in his company's history.

Bringing that up as a suggestion of him being out of touch (unless it's connected to their shyt feud and match, much later on) makes little sense. It is one of the very few times we can objectively point to him getting it, honestly.

Who cares what it helped...he tried to sabotage Hart instead of making it work..the entire boss character was created during the Bret whining storyline leading to Mania 13.

Yeah I think that's just him stabbing Bret hart and hating on hbk because hey pulled he best screwjob ever and helped launch heel Vince aka the greatest heel ever in he process

Vince not screwing Bret and letting him potentially keep the belt and put over wcw next star does nothing for wwf and Bret is a fukking a$$hole for trying to keep his belt before going to wcw

He didn't try. He did. He was a total sabotaging scumbag and completely finessed and fukked Bret over for his own gain.

But the point is that he gained. He won. He took his heat off it and built himself into the perfect foil for the biggest star in pro wrestling since 80s Hoegan. He took the money he saved on not paying Bret and threw a fat check at Tyson. It all connected with the audience of that time in an indisputable way. Millions and millions of dollars were made.

The point of this thread, so it's worded, seemed to be stuff that showed how he couldn't connect to his audience. 'Bret Screwed Bret' just doesn't fit as a choice, no matter who you mark for or hate.

No. On the contrary..he alienated a sector of fans despite the money made. He alienated WCW and ECW fans...Austin and Rock were the bookends to that record making money. Once they were gone, the ill effects of pushing Wcw, Bret fans, etc. It all added up.

Disagree. Vince had no choice. HHH was the only one capable of holding the top spot at the time
There is being the top guy and there is running through the main event scene like a hot knife through butter. I don't even think HHH cheated during TROT he'd just win cleanly

It only worked out for WWF because WCW had zero idea what to do with Bret. It could have went very differently.

COME ON...RVD was hot. They could of rode him for a good year.
RVD was very lackadaisical on and off screen. Would you feel comfortable if you pointed at a guy and said "u are going to be our no 1 guy" and their reaction was "scuffs" :manny: "yeah sure whatever"

Besides RVD was kind of a exposed, the harder he was pushed the more repetitive his matches became. It was the same thing over and over
