They see me trolling, they hating.....
It's disgusting what happened, catchy hooks have replaced skill and anybody can get on now. And if you say anything your called a hater. Simplicity has become the norm which caused the decline of quality hip hop.

hiphop is probably the only genre of music where u could be totally terrible at and still have people love your wackness

If the same rules applied to Jazz music then this n1gga would be eating good :heh:

'Wackness' was always acceptable if you had a good beat and good promotion.....

Joe Ski Love - Peewees Dance - YouTube

Cars That Go Boom - YouTube

MC Luscious "Boom I Got Your Boyfriend" - YouTube

If you still don't believe me...........watch/listen to the absolute WORST, WACKEST HIP HOP SONG I HAVE EVER SEEN THAT BECAME A HIT...................

:snoop:

jj fad - supersonic (Video Quality A++) - YouTube

OMFG THIS SHYT IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!

Never heard of these songs first of all.

Second, this was still when hip hop was in its nascent stage of hotel-motel-holiday-inn, basic party raps. Rakim, P.E, and NWA, etc changed hip hop from mindless party music to serious, expressive art. I think thats what the OP is referencing. After they were established, the biggest stars were generally the best rappers (Cube, Snoop, Nas, Big, etc).

For about the last 10 years, the opposite has been true, but 2012 was one of the better years hip hop has had in a minute, mainstream wise.

Lets just be real ---- the south completely lowered the creative bar. I love my southern brothas n sistas and its not completely their fault, as the various southern-influenced movements were executively encouraged by record labels, but that music was the culprit.

Crunk, Snap, trap --- hip hop became about "making money" above all else, including artistic quality. Thats just the fact of the matter, and all the artists were very open about this, and almost celebrated the shtty quality of music.

I clearly remember there being a time when wack rappers couldn't get on.

but now it seems like everything has reversed and its the other way around now

Someone school me

:ohhh:

2005 when Jeezy put out TM 101: Thug Motivation. It was the first album that was praised as a classic. With mediocre lyrics and just got a pass on mainly production and style. Dude is one of the worst rappers ever to be put on. Ol "im in my other car, driving to my other car" wack ass nikka.

its not that Southern niqqaz are wack, cause you got niqqaz like TI and Lil Wayne who show great skill... but the commercial success of some more party-based styles like crunk music, trap music and such made the labels look for these type of artists instead of the old lyrical super emcees.

Its always been that way, whatever brings in money is whats gonna get pushed.

I'm no gonna lie, when I'm speaking on wack rappers Jeezy is not one of the guys I'm talking about. He's not a good emcee or lyricist but he makes decent music. (Bars were simple but not total garbage, with decent beats and hooks)

but yeah, it was probably one of the first albums in recent memory that was praised by everyone universally that wasn't created by an elite emcee.

true but wack n1ggas wasn't getting 2 million dollar deals tho.

Sh1t would be like Jungle (Nas's brother) or one of 2pac's random Outlaw members getting a huge mainstream label deal in the 90s, sh1t just wasn't gonna happen.

but now it's more possible for them to get on than someone who is actually talented :ehh:

It's all subjective

Words lost their value. Lyrics don't matter it's all about the beats now. I dare you to listen to some of these acapellas these days.
