My elementary school was built on the same grounds as a former segregated school...it snow-balled from there.

I remember when I first really it me in the face was on the first day of 2nd grade when the teacher assumed I was Puerto Rican and started talking Spanish to me and when I told her I wasn't she asked me "Well, what are you then?".

pretty much from day 1, as soon i started school. being biracial, having a weird name & not fitting in with any group

+ moving around alot. small differences like what music you listened to mattered. when i lived in a white neighborhood it was okay for me to be into motley crue or whatever. when i moved to a black neighborhood i got clowned for it, picked up all kinds of affectations but somehow it was easier to make friends. all that racial shyt was weird to me and never made sense but i just went with it

I was listening to Joe ROgan podcast #344 and he said he never knew what the N word mean until he was like 10 or 11. Yesterday I told my son to stop acting like a white boy :manny: not my best "daddy moment", but he tells me, "what do you mean" i said NVM.

Question:
is it a good thing for kids NOT to learn about things like this that they will inevitably run into? Should you "keep the lie alive" as long as possible?

I see it as a good thing that my kids haven't been exposed to that yet and are blissfully unaware, thinking back i remember being aware of this stuff AT LEAST by 8 years old.

THoughts?

I learned about it in 2nd grade. When my white friend told me to change my name once I called him because his parents didn't like Black people. :snoop:

I remember going home and asking my parents why white people didn't like blacks.

I remember watching cartoons, looking at comics, and wondering why all the characters were white and me and everybody around me were brown. Then you hit pre-school and realize that not only that, but all figures of authority are white as well.

I remember taking a bath and wondering if I scrub hard enough would I turn white :sadcam:

white supremacy is some shyt man :snoop:

I knew from the very begening. I grew up in an all black neighborhood with a white grandmother that hated white people.:dead:

shyt was all types of confusing at first, but I quickly learned that race and people's feelings about it go way beyond skin color. I knew I was black and I was taught to be proud of that.

I could just observe how whites were acting around other races. I've posted about it before, I can tell you all about how white ppl act confidentially when just around whites.

As long as I remember.

It really dawned on me when I realized how weak and submissive other races were.

It's important your sons know the importance of their race and where they are from. Who they are, and how they are/can be perceived.

As far as tennis goes I don't see the issue. It might not be what you want, but it's what he wants. At the end of the day that's what should matter, right? It's not like it's a fakkit sport like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Growing up I sailed, played tennis, golf, hockey, soccer, water skied, mountain biked, rock climbing, hiking, and down hill skied. I really hit the slopes, still do.

As I got older I used women for sport and collected European cars, and houses.

First off BJJ is not a fakkit sport.. I wish my sons were interested in fighting. My oldest, is into science, he can't even throw a fukking football (discusting sh1t to watch) , he probably smarter than me and will probably be OK.... even though he's into white artist like Beiber and he speaks like a white boy (you all know what I mean). and I think the way lil white boys speak is gross.

And I've slipped up and said stop acting like a white boy, once to my oldest. so I feel you.. But you have to be a certain neutral type of person when you're around them. How you were raised and your experiences shape who you are and PREpare you for the world we live in. but their experiences will be different.

My sons are fukking oblivious. My first thought about races was "damn all white people are either teachers or on the news" I said that in the first grade - when I just turned 5.

All that bullshyt that 88m3 said he did is very unusual for minorities. I'm not a fan of any of that sh1t. Luckily I have BM's that think more outside the box than me. My sons go to interracial Christian church :gross!!: and one is raised by an atheist.

sometimes, things will make you uncomfortable but you have to let them be themselves. My dad used to tell me I was going to be a fakkit and not get any p*ssy because I wasn't varsity football from 9th grade like my bro n cousins. , lol.. I ended up being a pimp so you just never know how they will turn out, just give em love. Well... better yet, that's overrated. Just give them support.

:yeshrug: How old is he? He might end up blooming late like I did. I didnt like sports and I wasnt good at any till I started doing martial arts in 2nd grade, and I ended up playing 2 varsity sports and I'm a life long MAist... He just needs to find his niche. You need to appeal to him from a different perspective than "if you dont play sports you're a fakkit". He seems to be more intellectual, you should tell him to find a sport for scientific reasons. Better shape-clearer mind, better physiological health, psychological health from endorphin releases...

As someone who had to be forced into sports I would have really regretted it if my parents had given up on my athletics just because I wasn't good at them back then.

probably around grade 2.

sometimes it shocks me. I'm in the middle of a conversation or something and it hits me like "your black"

I really don't wake up everyday and "put my skin on" but its weird, you go through your day and something happens where it would be normal for you, but in someone else's eyes all they see is "that nagger over there"

In my head, I'm just a person. But to the outside world your something else

I never did really till I think around second grade. We were at the pool and I swam up and said something to this white kid and his dad who were in the pool also. The dad hit me with the :mjpls: and I asked my mom why, she kinda explained racism to me right then.

Around that same time I rode to school with this white kid and his aunt. The aunt looked at this black lady with like rollers and a wrap on her head and looked at me and was like ":usure: wow look how they come out in public, your mom doesn't dress like that does she?" This was my first real exposure around white people because before going to this school I went to an all black one and all black preschool. So as I got older, looking back that's probably why I don't mingle with them and why I'm more on the pro-black side.

I think they should be made aware of race, and the horrors of racism. But they should be raised to be tolerant of other races, not to accept racism, and to keep an open mind, and also to defend themselves and others.

Start teaching kids to be the changes we want to see in society.

It's Nature vs Nurture. We are masters of our environment. We have to change ourselves and that will reflect society in time.

What MA are you in???

well, children are little softer these days. I started off crying when I got BBQ sauce in my fingernails.. to carrying a burner and taking nikkas bytches for sport. Not everyone goes to those extremes, but the softest kid would be more adventurous than most kids r today. I'm glad my dad threw me in the pool when I was scared of water. I'm afraid of doing any of this to my sons, my oldest' mother is a new age, Buddhist meditating, don't spank kids, masters in children psychology, masters in business, masters in some other sh1t who thinks she's smart, but is really fukking clueless about the real world.

she doesn't believe in encouraging sports... she also told me instead of martial arts he should do dance class, lol. I guess dancing is cool, but I swear she's trying to actively turn him into a fakkit... but I also know that I'm a pro black Muslim socialist with some different views on everything, so I'm careful not to influence them in any direction.

I think in my head "if you dont play sports you're a fakkit".. but I don't say it or act like it. lol, sometimes the ball goes backwards when he throws it.. he's only 1 grade... but I have little bros and cousins... all of them weren't like him at that age. The only good thing is, if he will act like a faq, he's at least smart.. there aren't kids in his class smarter than him. They want to move him to a different school so he won't get bored.

I see nothing wrong with encouraging sports as long as you emphasize academics. It's obvious your boy isnt gonna play pro ball, but you should at least talk to her about how athletics are an important part of self cultivation... That's one thing western education does get right.

I'm doing Xingyiquan/Hsing I Chuan right now, but I have a background in a few other things:birdman:

 some of these stories, mine was more mild i guess, didnt notice race at all in elementary school had black friends, Spanish friends, Indian friends. My first high school a private one, freshman- sophomore year i was there , was about 99% black only non blacks was 2 puerto ricans, 2 white girls and myself , even them was not weird

all changed once i went to a public school , shyt was segregated like prison , no joke at all , in class yea u joked or spoke with ppl of other races but during lunch it was a black section, a puerto rican section, a dominican section and a south american section, and thats who stuck with , if u ever went to chill with any of the other ppl , especially the blacks u

same went for when the multiple race wars broke out u had to ride for your group or suffer the consequences

man inner city schools are gladiator training for real

the kids i work with now in elementary school are all uber aware of race , in a bad way,

other day during a lesson i asked the kid if they could go back in any period of time and change something what would they change ( this was after teaching them about civil rights ) i had this Guatemalan kid ( who almost looks white) say

"i would go back to when whites and blacks were separated"

had a black kid tell this girl she was very pretty and he would like her # or fb , the girl smiles say "thank you but sorry hun u look like monkey"

have had a bunch of Spanish kids drop the N word in the bad way
