Its best to send your kids to the best school you can which has kids in a similar economic standing as yours.

I went to a private elementary school but the school was 90% black and everyone was from a middle class social background.

This is IDEAL. I refuse to send my kids to a school that is disproportionately another race. It doesn't need to be a majority black school, but there has to be a sizable enough population of blacks so he can grow up around his own.

This doc was great. Not just because of the school aspect. But it really explores race and minority treatment in majority environments.

this will be my kids (private schools) .
:heh: These are top of the line elite institutions, not just "private" schools. Most private schools ain't shyt compared to this stuff. :camby:

homeschool > private and public

When I have kids, homeschooling will be the only option.....

Mark Henry and his wife homeschool their kids, "They are home schooled. My wife teaches them. She has an Ivy League college degree. They do a lot of activities together. She assumes the educational duties. She has taught me a lot as well" Mark Henry.

:smugbiden:

how about the social interactions for building "tolerance" for "intolerance" when they are out with other kids/students?

And honestly, when black kids go to all-white schools, there is a higher chance of their turning out to be c00ns and wenches. To preempt that self hating bullshyt, a majority black charter school is the best way to go. The better charter schools have a good academic record. Ultimately it's up to parents to install a good work ethic and inspire. Every year there are poor students who score amongst the highest on the SAT and do well in school. I've done well enough to apply for medical school myself. It wasn't easy but here I am.

My son's school is majority white but mixed, not the only black or minority by far. I think there are like 2Black kids, 1 Asian, 1Mexican, 2 mixed and one questionable lol. We always look out to make sure is not getting picked on or singled out.

I went to a private black catholic school for elementary, when I switched to public school everything was different. The grading scale was even lower.

Not everybody can go to private school though. I don't know how long my son will be in. But the best thing to do where ever is be involved. Tutoring if needed. They can be put into out of school programs to get some of those same benefits.
how was your experience? where there racial overtone trying to get educated?

I didn't go to private schools but I was glad I was fortunate enough to go to public classical schools for both middle school and high school(college prep public school).

Although I was a minority as a black kid that caused all kinds of weird problems, I am glad I was able to go and wouldn't be in college now doing it like I am now if it wasn't for the experience. I definitely wouldn't be graduating with a STEM degree(Chemistry). My school district that I was suppose to go to was mediocre, My mom was broke, HS grad only and there was no way I could have gotten home schooled and came out with any social skills.

I am going to put my kids in a public school to save money and strategically plan on housing options to put myself in a strong school district. Not all public schools are garbage, its just a matter of getting to the right neighborhood to get them in those better schools that are funded with quality property tax values.

Once your in, its mostly a matter of flexing your academic muscle and making noise! I can teach my kid to get straight A's, I've done it before and its nothing. Hopefully my children can go to Ivy League schools and make some noise there. I'm trying to be the first black person to win a Nobel Prize in science so if I don't do it, one of my kids can.

there needs to be course, on what the kids can expect and their experiences trying to get an education should not cause them to loose their self identity

also black families needs to work together and send in students together, so there is a strength in numbers, if not, some racist kid/teacher might try to malign the students

Homeschooling is actually the most ideal way to educate children. The average homeschooler has better academic outcomes than school student. That might be because the parents on average are richer and more educated on average, and that's why they have the ability to homeschool, but th but average homeschooler outcomes indicate homeschooling is the best way to go if you know how to go about.

I still think if you have a decent school is the best option, like someone said homeschooled kids are awkwards since they dont interact with other kids, and they would be missing an important part of their lifes

awesome. will check for this doc. this will be my kids (private schools) but thankfully they have a mother who having been though something similar can help them with whatever social adjustments they may have to face in that type of setting due to cultural differences.
What will you teach them about hard drug usage? Btw your avi is nothing like your situation.

That changed after an incident in his sophomore year of high school. Collin was playing ping pong with friends in the student lounge, and another student entered and took the paddle from him, declaring that it was his turn. Collin's friends demanded that the boy give it back—it wasn't his turn and, if Collin wanted to, he could take it back by force since he was bigger. Still, Collin insisted that it wasn't worth it and let it go; the other student agreed.

"Collin's smarter than that," he said. "He knows if he takes it from me, if he physically touches me, he'll definitely end up working at McDonald’s in ten years." Stunned, Collin left the lounge, went to a bathroom down the hall, and cried.

"I thought about all the fights I got into and how they were similar," he says. "I'm a big optimist so I used to think, 'Oh, that person didn't mean it that way, it's not like that.' I really thought that I was part of the community and a valued person, but I was still this little charity case. It was like he was saying, 'My grandparents' grandparents went to Harvard, so my life is set. You got this one chance, but if you fukk it up you've got nothing to fall back on.'"

such a sad commentary, thats why blacks gotta band together, be able to work in a variety of situations, but its not about ohhh, folk don made it because they are around "whites" because clearly that feeling is not reciprocated
