people really think this about amber?
i mean that bar might be a sublim, but this song is clearly about hip hop.
he's talking about when he was coming up in hip hop and would do anything for it because he loved it. he traveled 30 hours just because he loved hip hop. now it's not his "girlfriend" anymore because it's whack and he's disillusioned with it. it's not that complex breh.
You say you never saw this comin', well you're not alone
Million dollar renovations to a happy home
he talking about breaking up with hip hop. he tried to fix it with some superficial shyt, but the love is broken.
My ex says she gave me the best years of her life
I saw a recent picture of her, I guess she was right
the big amber diss. i'm not saying this isn't a subliminal shot, but it doubles as a metaphor for him saying hip hop isnow whereas it was great when he truly loved it.
I wake up, assessin' the damages
Checkin' Mediafakeout
Pictures of me drunk walkin' out with a bytch
But it's blurry enough to get the fake out
he wakes up looking at the latest hip hop gossip seeing how it has been disgraced that day. pictures of him with another chick is a metaphor for him with his other loves aka "fashion"
I wake up, all veggies no eggs
I hit the gym, all chest no legs
Yep, then I made myself a smoothie
Yeah, then me and wifey make a movie
this one puzzles me, but it could be about him waking up and making beats and not rapping. then he makes a smoothie and hits the booth. him and his wifey (hip hop) to make a movie. can easily be misinterpreted as kim tho. she probably misinterprets it herself when she hears that line too
Chicago - St. Louis, St. Louis to Chicago
Ándale Ándale E.I, E.I, oh, oh
he's talking about travelling to make this music thing work. he references a nelly song cuz a. he references st. louis b. the song is from the era this song is about. early 2000s/late 90s.
You had me drivin' far enough to switch the time zone
he would go out of his way for opportunities in hip hop because he was in love with it. it was the only thing on his mind. he would drive hours upon hours for it.
You was the best of all time at the time though
again hip hop was his love. he thought it was the greatest thing ever. he was infatuated with it and making it within hip hop.
Yeah, you wasn't mine though
this can be interpreted many ways. (ie at the end of the day hip hop belongs to executives) but what i think he means is it didn't belong to him because he wasn't hot at the time. he was doing it and grinding, but it belonged to the people actually on top.
But I still drove 30 hours
But still drove 30 hours to you
again this is about him travelling for hip hop on his own dime. he didn't give a fukk because he loved it and wanted to make it. you really think kanye drove 30 hours for a chick?
I remember rapping for Jay and Cam
Young producer just trying to get his flows off
this seals it for me. he's talking about the early hip hop days as he eluded to in the entire first verse. he is finally getting his break here.
I remember being nervous to do Victoria Secret
'Til I pictured everybody with they clothes off
see the above.
Expedition was Eddie Bauer edition
I'm drivin' with no winter tires in December
Skrrt skrrt skrrt like a private school for women
Then I get there and all the Popeye's is finished girl
this is him talking about arriving late to a show/opportunity for him to show off his skills.
maybe i'm trippin, but i'm just sayin brehs.![]()
