For example if she had a british accent, a brit wouldn't denounce her speech. She could even have a ghetto geordie accent, and they'd still simply call her a geordie. She could have an indian accent and they'd simply adore her. But because one does not like themselves, hearing themselves on a different face allows them to hate it.

This revealed a lot of things wrong.
