You're cluelessSon did u start listening to rap in 07? Just stop already it never was "cool" in hip hop to be hooked on hard drugs before this gen.
Not by much. I remember Still Dre dropping and Forgot About Dre leaking. I don't recall whether those particular songs had references to X. I do remember "I just took some exstacy, ain't no telling what the side effects could be"Breh the singles came out prior to the album.
Did we forget they had a solo album Tical, it's essential the same thing.
At what point was being hooked on "hard" drugs a predominant theme in the music as a whole? You're clueless

But that wasn't a single.
I thought Tical was weed?
Nobody is saying that rappers weren't rapping about weed and alcohol, this thread is about rapping about using "hard" drugs.
There were definitely references to it here and there in the 90s and some groups (36 and Dre Dog jump to mind) were really taking it there. But it wasn't a predominant theme in the music as a whole. Like "40s and Blunts" Hennessey or Cristal.
I'll take my L then.
this kinda took lean mainstream...first time i heard of it
Tical was the only Wu solo I didn't get when it dropped. I went back and got it in 96-97? I didn't spend a ton of time with it.No worries breh, its one of my favorite albums of all time so I know a lot about it. Method Man was heavily smoking dust while writing for the album by his own account.
Nah, that was everywhere out here too, made them recognizable, they were on my flight around that timeThat was a regional hit in the south only.

Even with Wu rapping about it, would you agree that smoking dust was never a predominant theme though? In hip hop as a whole? It never got anywhere near as popular or widespread as "40s and blunts" Henny or Cristal.
Negative...song was nationwide. I lived in texas, moved to ohio...song had the same amount of popularity...They just didn't know what it was about up north...or made fun of the content. That was a regional hit in the south only.
