Never. It's not just the music that makes Atlanta hot. It's Atlanta itself.
Exactly. It's the black Vegas..
Detroit is the black Pakistan

Motown left in the 80s. People have to want to live their for that to happen.
yeah you basically broke down the sound altogether. I don't want to sound like a hater but PLEASE don't let that sound go any further than it already hasI hear so many cats wearing it into the ground here that if it went national my ears might bleed
if anything the sound needs to become more progressive. This my lil Cousin here. He has a MUCH more mature sound and is actually talking about something and I'm NOT just saying that because he's my cousin. He actually has skills
Funny that you say that because that EXACTLY what I told him once I heard his music. Hell I didn't even know he rapped until I came back to Detroit last year and he came over for Thanksgiving and he asked did I still engineer. Once we hooked up and I heard his style he then asked me for beats. I gave him a lot of soul samples and melodic tracks. I told him that right now cats are not listening to 4 minutes worth of word play so what you have to do is give them something to jam to in between the wordiness. None of these are the tracks I recorded for him. He has an album that has those on them. When I get home I will upload some of the tracks I did with him for comparison. Oddly he was a lil pissed with me because I wouldn't give him anything with a trap/detroit based style. He says he can rip those too...I told him to hit them with those after he gets his core base following. Was I wrongYour cousin kind of nice, reminds me of Kendrick, he just needs some songs to jam to(feel good music to play in the car/club).
some of the music y'all posted ain't really "blow-up" material though. they doesn't have pop stylings to become mainstream. just my opinion![]()

Hell even my other Detroit artists sounds are different from the Detroit norm...my partner Maverik shyts on all them cats and his sound can compare to theirs ie...street music. This is one of his tracksYour cousin kind of nice, reminds me of Kendrick, he just needs some songs to jam to(feel good music to play in the car/club).
Wise man...everything you said fits him exactly. That's why I wouldn't even give him any of the cliche beats. He IS in the lane of the artist you named. I also respect he is down to go out and actively start a grass roots method to create a fan base. I would have NEVER thought he would do something like this cause as a kid he was as quiet as a church mouse.I don't know him like you do, but from his voice and lyrics, it doesn't seem like he's a street dude more like a regular dude who raps(J Cole, Kendrick, Big Sean, etc). Not saying that's a bad thing, but unless he's about that life, Johnnie should stick to different beats and go for mass appeal rather than being a hood celebrity. Maybe try to hit some local colleges and see if he can perform there.
payroll is the only hope.
although black milk should have been blown up.
but as has already been said, 99% of the "street" nikkas all got the same sounding beats and the rapping leaves much to be desired.

at least post some shyt by nikkas that aint no cookie cutter shyt
Well the thing with the production is that cats been using it since the Eastside Chedda Boyz/Street Lordz era and that been over 10 damn yearsfor anyone from the city it sounds dated and over done. Hell I could produce a Detroit sound beat in probably 15 minutes. They all the same tempo and basically use the same soundscan. And the lyrics are all exactly the same. I hate it
