I don't think you can conjure up some imaginary atrocity to justify action against Gaddafi. When you look at what ISIS did to just Yazidis alone, that's all the evidence you need to see where things were headed. Gaddafi wasn't a saint, but he damn sure wasn't on that level. Considering Tobruk, Derna and Benghazi were terrorist hotspots (West Point Study), it makes sense why he'd intervene to stop them from gaining power and turning the clock back on all the reforms instituted in Libya. Gaddafi worked with the West to stem the rise of those groups until he got back stabbed. Just like Iraq, somehow people in US custody made their way out (Belhaj &Baghdadi). Considering how those weapons went to Mali, Boko Haram, Syria and elsewhere the actions of Libya are being felt today down to the massive movement of people into Europe. I highly doubt the killing would have reached that high. One thing is for certain, is Assad falls, those Islamists will damn sure massacre 100s of thousands. Starting with Shia, Christians, Sunni who supported the govt., and anyone else deemed "unislamic" like they already have been doing for years now.
