When will we see a black man dominate the tennis game?

Sports like bowling, golf, tennis doesn't give the natural degree of difficulty as the major four sports in the US to the naked eye...

I can see how someone said tennis is a thinking sport, etc...

Just like bowling and golf, the entire game is making as close to perfect shots as possible and thinking on the go to whichever obstacle is in the way.

Don't get it confused though, tennis players are cardio crazy. You could possibly put tennis players in the same echelon as soccer players from the standpoint of how much they run..

(we can argue if bowling is a sport later) :smugdraper:

guess he doesn't count

Well he did die of aids, atleast it was the good kind. And it was nearly 20 years ago, cant expect people with limited sports knowledge of 4 sports to know this

Dudes are definitely trolling

Maybe, maybe not, u givin too much credit tbh. People dont even know how to troll properly anymore.

How old is Young now? I thought he was still winning tournaments.

22

Basically he has the next 2-3 years to make it otherwise he might aswell quit. If u want to be a major player on the tennis circuit, the latest age to win your 1st major by is 25, after that theres not much point. Obviously u can win majors in your late 20's and such but to dominate like the Nadal and Fed at that age after not doin it in your early 20's nah near on impossible.

I'm starting to find it a bit self-hatish that any sport that requires a bit of mental and physical finesse is immediately written off by black people as not being athletic enough for black people to be successful in it.

It's an alarming willingness to confirm a stereotype.

I wanted to soften the blow of the dig. You know what those types are like, 'How can u question my sports knowledge, yo, I watch Boxing when the big fights are on'

My requirements to be considered a proper boxing fan aren't even that stringent. It's just if you didn't watch Morales/Barrera I or Jirov/Toney live then you're immediately disqualified. They were HBO main events FFS.

I don't know what posters before me in this thread argued, but I'd say tennis requires every bit as much raw athleticism as any other sport.

Black people haven't made headway into it for other social reasons. Most obviously, Tennis = Country Club sport. Blacks were de facto banned from a lot of country clubs up until yesterday. ...We've always loved the fancy cars and clothes, but I don't think blacks are gonna suddenly start building tennis courts and bootleg country clubs. I hope not.

Also, being an elite football player requires a balance of physical and mental finesse. e.g. The WR who can read the defense and consistently find seams in the coverage with his routes, has good soft hands, uses blockers well ... these are the guys who make the best living. Basketball too.

The new generation of black females are starting to come up in tennis lead by Sloane Stephens followed by Taylor Towsend & Tornando Ali Black (her lil sister Hurricane) so the females doing they thing. As far as the males, it'll probably never happen again or not anytime soon, just not as attractive of sport as the others

show an example of one tennis player athletically dominating another player ie like shaq

Nadal. Go watch the 2008 French Open where he made Fed look helpless. Fed 2007 Australian Open against Roddikk. Watch Fed-Djoker this morning & tell me they aren't great athletes.

Got the nerves to say show him a tennis player athleteically dominating another like Nadal doesnt exist

first time i watched it and keep it real with you they seem really even athletically. like speed and quickness and strength it all seems really even. maybe youre more of a tennis expert you can tell me when and how and what they are different in these capacities. and to keep it all the way real with you most tennis players in general seem more or less even as athletes in respect to each other. not like is other sports where athleticism stands out a lot and is way more undeniable (lebron, roy jones, pacquiao)

seems like the determining factor more than who is faster or stronger was accuracy and not tipping/hitting the net or hitting the ball just inside the line etc ie percision, timing

that right there seems to me more mental than anything. like read this

2008 French Open final: Federer v Nadal - as it happened | Sport | guardian.co.uk

Third set: Federer 0-6 Nadal* Move over Bjorn, there's a new kid on the block. Nadal claims his fourth successive title as Federer - almost fittingly - sends his umpteenth forehand approach shot long.

seemed like it was federer that lost due to just more mental mistakes

i agree. tennis to me seems more like bowling golf or darts than like football or basketball. its no contact and its tool assisted (the racket) so theres this extra element of technique. almost like learning to play a musical instrument. the main athleticism aspect to it as far as i can tell is what you said cardio

i feel like tennis takes your whole life to learn how to play. like a musical intsrument or golf takes a life time of work. thats a different dynamic than just being gifted physically. even the williams sisters they had to work theyre whole life its something you have to have access to early and be culturally supported

People are really underrating tennis as a sport. To run back and forth in the heat and you have to have a lot of leg and arm power, it's a tough ass sport.
