A description
I literally had a hours long discussion about this but with a different word:A description isn't an insult...
I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone. So, here's the thing.
"Traditional" as we define it today is a somewhat Eurocentric concept.
The idea that American women in the 1950's never had jobs and only depended on men to make money to provide for the whole family on 1 income is rooted in a falsehood that mostly applied to upper class White women.
Upper Class White women in the past were able to live out the "princess" fantasy of having to only watch over their picket fence homes and children while the man handled all the finances and provided for everyone on a high income. But this wasn't universal. Even working class White women(especially immigrants) didn't live this lifestyle. A lot of Irish and Italian immigrant women still worked in sewing factories and other jobs to help make ends meet with their families.
Black women, of course, rarely had that luxury too. In many rural Black Southern families, men were still the breadwinners but tons of people worked, including women and kids. Plenty of Black women worked low wage jobs and many Black kids were pressured to work at young ages too.
Traditionalism is overrated. What's more important is stability and stability is really flexible and not confined to archaic rules.
In 2023, only rural rednecks who live in small towns full of 300 people or wealthy aristocrats can afford to be "traditional." Everyone else must pool their resources together to give their relationships and families a stable lifestyle.
One of the reasons Asians, Jews, and Indians are so successful is because they AREN'T traditional in the 1950's American sense, despite having that reputation. All 3 groups specifically marry women who would be deemed "ball busters" or "career women" but such decisions end up paying off for them in the long run.
Black people can be traditional. Hell, there was a TLC show about a Black family called the Derricos who have like a million kids and the father provided for everyone while the woman stayed at home. But Mr. Derrico has a good job PLUS TLC money so he's playing by different rules than the majority of us.
We need to emphasize STABILITY, not traditionalism. There's a difference but a lot of men focus on traditonalism more because of the Leave It To Beaver/Andy Griffith esque 1950's family myth. It's similar to when people fetishize libertarianism imho.
I literally had a hours long discussion about this but with a different word:
So descriptions don’t have intent? It’s just meant is just a default term with no positive or negative intentions behind it? Yes or no?
They can... A description can be put out as positive, neutral, or negative... It can be received as positive, neutral, or negative regardless of the person expressing the descriptions intent...So descriptions don’t have intent? so the context and tone when someone gives this description will definitely tell you the intent whether it’s positive negative or neutral… correct? I haven’t Heard the phrase uttered in a neutral way when I’ve heard it said. So in these instances the intent is negativeThey can... A description can be put out as positive, neutral, or negative...
