If you live in ny, then i don't think you really need a car, you can take the train. idk though.

Only reason I avoided public transportation like that is because I had a LOT of bad experiences

Back in Durham, NC - I was riding the bus when dudes shot up a city bus for the first time. They eventually shutdown ALL of the buses for 3 days. I was like 12. Bullcity gangs were on that Taliban shyt before it was cool
Charlotte, NC - got robbed. I was overdressed, I'll hold that L There were a bunch of people gathered to hop on the bus to the uptown terminal and in the mob a dude pressed a gun to my back and told me to run pockets. I was in a suit in a place I probably shouldn't have been wearing a suit. These goons don't care about you trying to make a difference and get a degree and all that other shyt. He got on the bus, I never got to turn around, nobody saw shyt, I never saw his face, there were a dozen connects before that bus hit the terminal.... quality jack move if I must say so myself. Lesson learned.

Washington DC - first time coming home from leave. I was kinda forced to travel in uniform because of wild ass reasons back at Ft. Hood. Anyways, everything went gravy til I hopped on the metro. It was packed, so I had to stand up. There was this crazy dude about 2 rows ahead of me though. He was just rocking back and forth making Mr. Ed and Carmen Santiago quotes... I wasn't even making eye contact with the dude. I know a wildman when I see one. Everyone else on the car though? They all started looking at me like "You're in the Army! Can't you DO something? " All my body language made it clear that if shyt went south it was every man for themselves I ain't getting shanked and peed on for some old lady on the metro.

These people needed a real train system or metro about 40 years ago. This really is WOAT transportation in a 1st world country. I didn't want to get a car here, it doesn't make sense. But I had to. Because I'm not waiting outside at a stop to go 7 miles in 2 hours.

It cost me $100+/month to take public transportation to work do you know how much it would cost me to drive to work every month gas+parking+insurance.
