Where did the myth that The Blueprint was weak/bad lyrically start?

That's not even reality. Why would Nas stans do that when he won the battle?

I've also never heard anyone say blueprint was not lyrical. Like never. Dudes invented a fake problem to argue about it in here.
They're both in my top 5 so I'm not picking sides, but nas stans be obsessed with Jay. Everytime I scroll down to the comments on a nas video Jay's name get mentioned everytime.

This thread is disingenuous cause no one is saying Blueprint isn’t a masterpiece. No one ever said Blueprint was wack lyrically either. The Blueprint was Jay’s least lyrical album up until that point and that’s just a fact. I think Vol 3 was one of Jay’s worst albums but it’s lyrically one of his best. U see how that works?
Y’all be making Jay Z sound even better than he really is lol

Jay was 5 albums deep and the blueprint (a hiphop classic) is the weakest lyrically.

That boy other albums must be nice Af :mjlol:

It’s nothing special lyrically but still a classic album, because of the sound the songs and the flow nothing wrong with saying that

It’s nas Stan’s that are jealous of a man for another man

Them dudes are hurt people like more Jay z albums than Nas. That’s why they keep propping up IWW because they know Nas has no album people care about besides Ilmatic. Outside of Illmatic Nas don’t have albums more revered than Vol 2, Blueprint, Black Album, American Gangster, & 444

Thems the facts dweebs

Talking about Blueprint weak lyrically when it’s one of the most quoted albums ever lol

@Awesome Wells will dap posts like this and act like he’s not a secret Jigga Stan lol(you still a good poster but come on)

In no world is Black album American Gangster and Vol 2 more revered than Stillmatic, let alone It was Written

You can't put that just on Nas stans this year. There have been a LOT of weird anti-Jay threads and posts on the Coli this year. Sure there's always gonna be some hate or tension given his place/status but that shyt went to another level this year. From the random Pac affiliates taking shots at him in interviews earlier this year, to Melle Mel, to southern nikkas shytting on him, to the Nas stans taking shots based on Nas' recent activity. Just weirdo shyt.

Blueprint is an undeniable classic, I was a kid in school when that album came out and definitely remember the Nas v Jay battles. I was telling people Braveheart Party was better than H To The Izzo, which tells you all you need to know about the delusion of being a kid stan lol. I remember the arguments about Jay only bragging, whereas Nas was doing concepts. But Blueprint has concept records and themes too. And to hold on to that argument in 2023, while simultaneously celebrating Nas' Hit Boy albums which are some of his least personal and least conceptual...is weird to me.

lol no one outside of Nas Stan’s talk about stillmatic lol and IWW is the definition of revisionist history. Yall nas Stan’s should know that definition of that word because Yall claim another album from 96 is built the same way

I'm still trying to figure why the consensus opinion of "BP isn't Jay's best lyrically" got so many of you in your feelings

No one's saying its trash...some just think some of his other albums are better lyrically...that's literally it

That's not hate, it's just a take

To quote the man himself...sensitive thugs, y'all all need hugs

First jay album that waa carried by production. Every other jay album was carried by his lyrics. He did kind of dumb down lyrically on that album, but in doing that, it gave the beats more life.

Still a certified classic

That’s cause I wasn’t trying to disparage Jay in any way. This thread is some bullshyt because saying Jay didn’t go as hard on BP as previous albums isn’t saying he was wack on it in the slightest.

If some 23 year old that hasn't really listened to Jay like that said that they thought he was just aight lyrically and overhyped, and wanted to hear something to change their mind, you probably wouldn't point them to listen to Blueprint first. Great album, but if their limited opinion of Jay is based on his latter career and records and want to be impressed by his famed flow and lyricism, then there are much better go-tos.

I bring this very specific situation up because I literally dealt with this exact issue earlier this week lol. This 23-year old that has J Cole and Big L (lol) as his top 2 all time kind of shrugged when I threw out Pac and Jay as my top 5 and they had a take about how Jay never really impressed, and even used the word "basic" to describe Jay and Pac, but he admits he never really listened to much of their catalogue. I'm schooling him about both, but I'm not starting with telling him to listen to Blueprint to take down his admittedly baseless"basic" critique.

There’s like 8 songs that would more than show Jay’s lyrical abilities on Blueprint one. That’s more than half the album. The rest of the songs are simply good singles and strong album cuts outside of Jigga My nikka.
