Man, that was TO ME the most impressive defensive superbowl performance when you factor in degree of difficulty, the spread, no one giving them a chance in hell, and having to carry the worse SB winning QB in league history.

I believe in terms of all time SB performances this ranks #1, with the 02 bucs coming in second with all those returns against the raiders. Gruden basically had a cheat sheet on rich gannon though. The 85 bears were facing an overmatched offense, along with the 2000 ravens against the giants.

The way denver held newton down when no team had success against them was astounding. They stuffed the run, and made big plays against the receivers in the secondary despite playing far off ginn and brown fearing their speed on the edges. They completely shut down Olsen, who was a non factor all game and had no significant catches or gains all game.

I believe all time i would rank this unit 6th. Very hard to crack the top 5

1. 85 bears
2. 00 ravens
3. 86 giants
4. 02 bucs
5. 13 seattle

I think they're getting overrated. How many drops did Carolina have? That was probably 100 yards of offense right there. Pittsburgh put up nearly 400 yards on them.

They were a good, not great defense. :ld:
Them being great is not up for debate imo.

How great is the question..

How quickly people forget how dominate that 2013 Seattle defense was and how powerful that 2013 Denver offense was. What Seattle's D did in that SB was ridiculous and no one saw it coming. Most people I knew had Broncos winning. I think this go around only people who were Carolina fans or Cam fans thought they were gonna outplay Denver's D. Denver's defense was impressive but I expected it.

I would say top 10, and close to 5. I think our defense is just as dominate as that Seahawks defense that put the beats on us a couple seasons ago

At least they had a dominate run game and could control the clock, we pretty much put our defense on the field time after time all year and again in the bowl against the best offense in the league

I think their postseason performances suggest otherwise. They were good, but Pittsburgh marched up and down the field on them.

New England marched up and down the field in the 4th; Carolina had a lot of good drives against them but kept shooting themselves in the foot with drops. Hell, the play before the strip/sack on Cam for Denver's first TD should have been a catch, but they didn't overturn it after the review even though the ball never hit the ground. That play alone could have changed the complexion of the game.

:whoa:

They're a great defense. They were pretty much #1 in every notable defensive category for 90+% of the season. I mean holding teams to under 200 passing yards a game in this day and age is insane.

I'm basing this off what I saw in the playoffs. :manny:

Edit: Where the hell can I find out how many drops Carolina had last night?
