He has multiple classic compilation albums. Since he Doesn’t write his own rhymes, it disqualifies him from entering my list at number.

I rank MC's on album quality and output.
Even though he had that odd UMC album, his run since 2011 is flawless to me. Even the darker album about Chicago & August Greene were pretty dope.
He's not my favorite emcee but his body of work represents the rise from the streets to becoming a man. Music wise, he's A1 in my book

He would be rated higher if he was from New York
He's twice the rapper as someone like jay z with a way more consistent discography but he ain't the favorite so what can you do
Plus, I think he has the image of being a "safe" rapper that worked against him
He's lightskinned and raps about conscious shyt so nikkas take him as soft and gravitate to rappers with more of an edge
Even though deeper listening would easily disprove those assumptions

that's conscious rappers for ya. But Common is still in my top 10 for sure. That Water For Chocolate Album stays in rotation
