Well Kendrick has had a run previously so are we starting this run from the battle on? If so it’s a great run but not on the level of the runs mentioned simply cause music is consumed differently. If you were there for that 50 run you know what I mean. It’s just a different feel. Not Kendrick’s fault but it’s just this era. Luther has been number one but ask a random non hip hop person if they’ve heard it and they won’t know what you’re talking about. When X had 2 platinum albums in that short span that was real people buying real physical albums. Numbers can be manipulated now. It’s just not the same. Em, 50, Wayne and X have the goat runs without question

I feel like half you cats are trolling.

Kendrick is currently breaking records left and right on a stadium tour with SZA and random non hip-hop people don't know "Luther"?:gucci: :mjlol:

Where do you cats live, talking like this? I'm in the midwest. A 60 year old woman who couldn't name a single Kendrick song at gunpoint was asking me about this tour a couple days ago.

You live in the Midwest arguing about the global reach of these artists. When last were you outside the country?

I'm in Europe now. I just left South Africa. You hear Kendrick when you go to the club and obviously he's popular so his concerts are packed. But he is just one of many artists that have a global following.

When 50 was on top, you could not escape that nikka's music, it was played everywhere. Similar to Eminem. Again, i was abroad during that period.

Stop arguing about what you don't know about. There are levels to global dominance.

I was in the building with 55 THOUSAND other people rapping and singing along to Luther word for word.

People know Luther. That song is everywhere. Hip Hop fans and casuals alike.

Its time to accept the fact that Kendrick’s audience has surpassed the core hip hop segment. The man is a superstar and this run is on par with some of the biggest we’ve ever seen from a rap artist.

At a Kendrick concert :comeon:

Of course they gonna know the words to Luther.

I have not heard Luther outside. I've heard Humble in the past. I've heard NLU of course. Luther is big but it's not that big

And the bolded is what y'all not getting. Yes he's a superstar. There are hip hop artists who have put up more dominant runs. Both can be true.

I’ll put it to you like this. What were the biggest songs of 2024? I’m going to assume it was

Kendrick- Not Like Us
Teddy Swims - Lose Control
Sabrina Carpenter- Expresso
Billie Elish - Birds of a feather
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars - Die with a smile
Shaboozey- Tipsy

Maybe not in that order but those are probably the songs of 24. Now be honest how many of those songs have you heard? If you ask a random hip hop head how many have they heard? Music is consumed differently now. Back in the day you couldn’t hide from big pop songs. Now you can

And here's the thing, even today, some songs you can't hide from. Some artists you can't hide from.

An artist having a hit song isn't unheard of. Can you strangle the public with multiple songs over a period of time?

That's the acid test for me.

The problem half of yall are kaving is trying to have good faith conversations with people that are stuck on what they remember from 20 years ago and folks that are die hard Stan’s that aren’t willing to bug on their opinion.

If you go based on the fact he did a Super Bowl, selling on stadium tours, multiple songs go #1, 15 years into his career, won a beef with the biggest rapper, has transcended hip hop and a fixture in pop culture, it’s really only 1 or 2 person ahead of his run, if that.

I think that’s really hard to do today. It’s just a different landscape. Taylor Swift would have been god in the 2000s. Obviously she’s big now but even with her. How many songs of hers could people on here name? You couldn’t ignore Brittney Spears. I bet most folks here coulda rattle her hits off if you were outside in the 2000s

Big picture point isn’t to downplay his run. It’s just Kendrick’s run can compare to the runs of the past because of the way music is consumed now.

Dumb question and no one in here is making any sense

How are y'all gonna rank this when no one has ever done what he did?

Who randomly attacked the no. 1 artist and packed him up so clearly no one can debate it without getting laughed out the room? While also making the other nikkas apologize publicly?

Then proceeded to drop and album continuing to kick his back in and breaking records while doing it?

All while showing the world you actually can make singles because that was the main knock to his career leading into this? When's the last time a single song had this much staying power in this ADHD era? He got like 3-4 of them shyts while everyone else is struggling. Who waited until album 5 to put out an album of hits for real?

Someone else had to have done something similar for y'all to rank this against, yall just naming nikkas who sold records like that's the only feat that nikka accomplished here.... Yall just throwing shyt at the wall

@Conan you're all over the place my guy.

There's a difference between having a hot song (that goes global) and being a global phenomenons.

This is what I responded to.

"NLU" is not even as big as "Humble" (yet) and "Luther" has the potential to surpass both.

I don't give a f*ck if you lived abroad on Mars....Kendrick had been a global phenomenon for 10+ years.

I never compared him to 50. I was pointing out how ridiculous this whole "one song" thing is.

To make matters worse you responded to what I said to Illmagic, which had nothing to do with any of that.

And @Illmagic I heard all those songs and have no interest in any of those artists outside of Kendrick. Do you cats never go anywhere? :dahell:

You don't go to restaurants, grocery shopping, to the mall, take an Uber, hear random sh*t from cars driving by?

I don't get your point, at all. It's far more difficult to avoid artists in 2025 than back in the day due to the internet and social media. The only two means before that was radio and MTV/BET.

Completely disagree. MTV was the central hub for music. That hub doesn’t exist now. That’s big reason why it’s so different now. Back in the day the VMAs was damn near bigger then the Grammys. Last year I saw a clip of the breakfast club and DJ Envy said never heard Miley Cyrus flowers before. And he’s a DJ involved in radio. It’s wayyy easier to be in a bubble and not hear major hit today then it was back in the day. Taylor Swift is the biggest artist in music but I’ve heard people on here and in real life say they couldn’t name 2 songs by her. It works the other way around there are people on the other side that couldn’t name 2 Kendrick songs.
