The purpose of that story is to show that you don't own anything. Everything you have belongs to God and if your son dies, that's God taking him BACK.

There's a ton of game in the Bible and a lot of people don't see it. They read everything at face value, but there are ways of seeing it differently.

im deadass

Genesis 1:29-30

conveniently beasts end up eating meat with no explanation :jbhmm: how do you go from man and beast being vegan to not being so unless the the "fruit" was actually flesh.

Then you have Cain and Abel story which "appears" as a "sacrifice" when it can be read another way:

Genesis 4:1-5

this can be perceived as over the course of a mans life...he offers the first of his flock and the fat thereof.....children and the work of his herd

vs the toils of the ground...works of his own :jbhmm::youngsabo:

even as we speak...cain is plotting death on his brother who attracts herds

I'm always fascinated by the many perspectives that can be derived from the bible. I appreciate all of your contributions in this thread breh. We may not necessarily see eye to eye but I appreciate the new perspective. :salute:

if you believe in God then you realize the many perspectives are expected given he is the source of all information known and unknown :obama:thus my statement earlier:

you think and call on something to think of, whom do you think answers?

the phrase "call upon the lord" can have a much deeper meaning the more humble you consider yourself :whew:

@MMS what does the Bible say about people who have conditions such as Alzheimer's, dementia, clinical depression, bipolar depression, schizophrenia, and down syndrome?

some of those are genetic disorders while others would be classified as psychological disorders

if you only had the old scriptures to go off of (time of jesus) many of these people would have been considered plagued with demons or smitten by god

depending on what you believe some of these things can be cured but in the case of someone diagnosed with schizophrenia/bi polar etc it would fall on the person to reject their own delusions

but in my own lifetime alot of these people will do anything but that and are often atheist...so the concept of breaking down what they believe never crosses their minds and psychologists stay in business the more they delude themselves.

America is in a weird place because of the lack of faith and the mingling of pseudoscience with science. The sad part is people cant see the difference in society due to college degrees being considered the gold standard.

:feedme::feedme:

1. STDs didn't run rampant and there weren't murders popping off at crazy rates because of men having to raise another man's child unknowingly "thou shalt not commit adultery"

2. The sabbath is basically the only thing that kept people from going crazy and working themselves to death. If God can take a break so can you.

3. The flood was a warning about living righteously and being a good steward of your environment. It applies to where we are now with climate change. Most people ain't gon make it when the next flood happens.

4. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" would shut down 80% of twitter babble if people actually listened to it.

5. Not coveting your neighbors possessions kept haters in line.

The act of "Loving God with all your heart and mind" in truth would mean loving all that you interact with throughout your life

if we considered this everytime we had a thought we might all be rich :manny: is it possible to have unclean deeds if your mind and heart are clean?

The Bible gives y’all so many clues but y’all don’t understand.

“Let us go down and confuse their tongue because in solidarity there will be nothing they can’t do. They’ll be Gods like us.”

D'vorim 10:12-13 is about as explicit as it can be:

Now, Yissro'él—what does Hashem your G-d want from you?
only this: to respect Hashem your G-d
by following all His ways
and loving Him,
and to serve Hashem your G-d whole-heartedly and with all your being
by keeping Hashem's mitz'vos and His chukkim
that I am commanding you today
[which will be] for your own benefit
