Why point him out? He's a 43 year old man...
Where are all the songs from n1ggas Trayvon's age?

To play devil's advocate, isn't it up to the OGs in the game (and life) to lead this charge and lay the groundwork for change?

I'm a fan of his music, but if you're waiting for Jay-Z to become someone who takes a stand for social issues, you're going to be waiting forever. I just don't see that happening.
That's not who he is. Which isn't to say he doesn't care, but I don't think he's comfortable in that space. He'll make his little comments in his raps here or there, but really, they're all surface things.
Plus, he's way too tied into big business (aka White America) to really throw shots at the system in a meaningful way.
Say what you want about 'Ye, that he's a simp for wifing a known slut, that he's an egomaniac, baby for dealing with paparazzi the way he has, etc.
Dude seems to give a fukk about shyt, and has unquestionably left a whole lot of $ on the table as a result.
I agree with the majority of what you said. Although I truthfully doubt Jay even cares. Unless its something that benefits him monetarily, I can't see him giving a shyt.
He's a true capitalist... Nothing wrong with that. I just hope he knows that it does affect him as an artist in the long run.... Off topic, but most people look at Jay as a great businessman and not necessarily a great artist.
All GREAT musicians/artist have made a stance on some social issues.. While we shouldn't look for celebs to tackle every social issue or look for them as role models, they do represent a voice for something and someone that can't be heard.. They didn't ask for it, but it's something that comes with the territory.
thank you my brother that what I'm saying, the fact that a 43 year old men subject matter doesn't reach beyond how rich he is is pathetic in itself. dis n**** J is old enough to speak on things like this, he already has the money, so I don't understand why he doesn't speak up this is why to me Jay Z could never be the greatest. great artist speak on various topics this n**** has been on the same b******* for 15 plus years. it's time for the camel to grow up, but Who Am I kidding, as long as he has a bunch a dikk riders on his side I guess he can get away with being an Uncle Tom.I agree with the majority of what you said. again, that feeling yall got that celebs NEED to do something is funny
.Hip Hop is the Vehicle to Deliver Innumerable Lessons! Afrika Bambaataa doesn't believe that Hip Hop heads should just have knowledge of Hip Hop. He promotes and proves that Hip Hop can be used as a vehicle for teaching awareness, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, freedom, justice, equality, peace, unity, love, respect, responsibility and recreation, overcoming challenges, economics, mathematics. science, life, truth, facts and faith
Making a stance on social issues as you put it, doesn't make anywhere near as much impact as what is actually being done in these communities outside of music. What foundations have they got going on to tackle the low standard of education and the likes..?
These are the REAL ISSUES, anybody can write a half heartfelt lyric about some social issue (that most non-retarded people know about) to score some "cool" points, the people making the real difference are the Kofi Annans of this world, not Lupe fiasco or any of these "Conscious" rappers' 16 bars, at least not compared to the people who are actually out there in the field.
I know nobody cares, but stuff like this is stated in the Zulu Nation by-laws...
THE 5TH ELEMENT OF HIP HOP CULTURE
KNOWLEDGE, CULTURE, OVERSTANDING
FACTOLOGY VS. BELIEFS
