Yeah, the impression i get is that the pac we're all familiar with didn't really exist until he got to the bay...recently read an article from the baltimore sun back from '96, shortly after he died...and they to a bunch of his closest friends from his years in bmore..they describe him as basically that guy from that clip people are always posting trying to clown or whatever where he's talking about girls not liking the nice guy...when he moved to cali he became 2pac the rapper we all know...his bmore friends said he never changed when dealing with them personally, but had a harder time reconciling the difference when in the presence of others

So far as his rap persona goes, I says he's essentially from Cali...from his debut up until MATW, from the bay...and once he starting running with Suge and Death Row, gangbanging and sh!t...basically from LA...don't know if i could trace any of his rapper persona specifically to bmore or nyc

Yea except for the fact his first rap name was MC New York

Him changing that name to a more marketable one dont change the fact of where he was from

The ironic shyt is it was prolly Cali nikkaz who gave him that name

he's from both coasts:yeshrug:

people used to say that he hated NY and he always denied it and said he was from NY:yeshrug:

but Cali put him on and is where he learned the game, that's why he repped the west coast:yeshrug:

How would you answer this question?
NY? Baltimore? The Bay? LA? Everywhere?
Dude was GLOBAL...He was bigger than the block...

That's why he was better than other people's favourite MC's....He travelled across the USA and he was able to express a perspective outside a block radius...

He stil maintain his personal integrity and authenticity....

If you look at 50, dude is stuck now...He can't talk about the hood, because people see him as multi-millionaire, but he doesn't know how to talk about multi-millionaire problems in a way that street level people would be interested in, and he can't relate those problems back to the streets...

And if you look at some of these new rappers, they really don't have the imagination to travel beyond their blocks/hoods...That's why they are hot for 15 minutes, and then they have to either disappear of do extreme non-hip hop related shenanigans to remain relevant...

That "this is my hood" mentality will retard your growth and expansion...If you don't use it correctly...
