He kinda has a point though. When people say somebody is "top 20" do they really go through an entire set of players? Or do they just randomly assign a value based on gut instinct?

That being said, CP3 is easily the 38th greatest player of all time.

Top 20 lock
and thats where he'll stay. Hasn't done enough yet to breach the top 5.
Lol there are not 5 point guards better than Paul after this
Paul is already in the Top 40 so he's pushing inside the Top 30 with a strong shot at Top 25; I gotta really look at each guy how I have them, to be specific with it, but he'd be a Top 30 lock and possibly Top 25...

The thing to recognize with Paul is he was already Top 40 based on 15 years of work without a Finals appearance. As great as he's been most of the postseason, I think we all recognize this isn't the very best versions of Chris Paul; he's past his prime so elevating him upwards is only going to go so far...

I'm a staunch believer in that your legacy is mainly shaped by what you do within your prime, not before or after it. It's the reason why I don't gas "Kawhi winning" in SA, to have a relatable comp, because that Kawhi obviously wasn't the Kawhi he's become since...

But, while I believe in that, I'll also say that success outside your prime does have some impact. It is helping his overall legacy, he's still playing well beyond the level most guys at his age are---->I just feel that if he went on a title run when he was at the peak or prime of his powers, it would elevate him more...

So Top 30 lock, strong possibility at Top 25, and if he can continue this "reminiscent of prime" play going forward, he'll keep moving up...

The ship has probably sailed on him ever being a Top 20 lock or reaching Top 15. He's 16 years in...
Who are #15-30 definitively better than CP3?
He hasn’t improved as a player since he left OKC.

Going to a promising phx team and winning shouldn’t sway you.
PHX without CP3 is a 5-7 seed who loses in the first round. Yes it should sway you. We really should be having similiar conversations about his longevity the way we do Bron's, no matter where this man goes the franchise is elevated and at 36 and 6 feet tall this is really unmatched.

•I'm not putting CP3 above Pettit, the OG GOAT power forward who was viewed as a Top 5 player I his active playing days, a 2x MVP, went to 4 Finals, and also has a ring as a #1 (assuming Paul gets one this year)

•I'm not putting Paul over Moses, another guy who was seen greater in his era (Top 5) than Paul, a 3x MVP, led two different teams to The Finals, and a ring as a #1

•I don't have Paul over Mailman, a guy who was good for just as long if not longer than Paul, 2x MVP, who was in higher esteem than Paul in his era (Top 5 guy), and went on two late career Finals runs as a #1

•I'm not putting Paul over Baylor, who had one of the most explosive peaks ever, went to 7 Finals, three as a #1 and the only thing holding him from being a champion is the greatest dynasty The League has ever known

•I don't have Paul over Curry, a guy of his own era who has been held in higher esteem, 2x MVP, has a title as a #1 and three overall, game-changing player

That's five guys easy off the Top of my head, he aint clearing Top 20 off this run. To not be so long-winded, I can make similar cases for The Doctor, Barkley, Robinson, Dirk, Wade, KG, Hondo, Cousy, and Walt Frazier, but even by my personal count this still lands Paul inside the Top 30. So no, I dont believe there have been 30 greater players in NBA history, but I certainly believe there's been more than 20. He's somewhere in that 25-30 range and depending on how he closes his career he can reach Top 20 but this one run isn't catapulting him into Top 20 over guys who peaked higher and/or were greater for longer...

Your proving my point.

What iteration of cp3 wouldn’t improve the phx Suns.

He’s an all time great tier player regardless of rings.

I have him ranked high because I’m aware of his capabilities, he’s been this player for ten years.

Just because your figuring this out isn’t my fault.

Yeah it should lol.
if that Lakers trade went through and he won a ring with Kobe why would that change my view or “rank”?

it wouldn’t. It would just mean CP3 paired with the right player would win a ring.

no super team assembled that has won a ring has ever changed my mind about how good that player is.

Shouldn’t we wait until they actually win first to have this discussion?

With that being said, I’d put him top 15 btw as I think he’s an overall better player compared to other GOATS based on the intangibles, which do matter even if others don’t think so.

top 15?

Chris Paul :mindblown:
