pnd 1&2 were amazing, he really hit his peak early. pnd3 wasn't bad, i wasn't a fan of colours 1 or 2, and i only liked one song off of seven days. i think pnd 1&2 were just lucky streaks

There is no reality where weeknd blows up on OVO like he did . Drake would be using him for his own gains. He would have weeknd in the lab and be picking over his material to use for himself. Abel saw it and smartly bounced

Well the point is homie gets no promotion at all. His projects aren't put together that well. It just feels like his career has been handled sloppy..... And I have to give OVO some of the blame for lack of promotion. He's had some soild songs, I never see a videos out.. Where is his Drake stimulus package?
And I don't really feel like he has his own lane currently. What does he do that I can't get from a Jeremih, Tory Lanez or Bryson Tiller.... But it may also be a case where he is just better at crafting and writing songs more so than being an artist himself kinda like The Dream

that dude is not a star no matter what small contingent of the net want's to dikk ride him based on drake co-signs and his OVO affiliation. every single reference track he's leaked of him performing songs he's written for others is markedly worse. don't know why this young generation can't accept roles within the industry, go be a writer, cash checks and live a dope life, cats always chasing fame.
OVO definitely helped this dude overachieve as an artist, as well as got him connected enough to write hits for people he'd otherwise not have access to.

Nah, he definitely benefitted from the OVO look. PND1 didn't really catch anyone's attention aside from the OVO/Drake co-sign until it came out, and people realized it was good.
But really, it comes down to the fact that like most artists that are more auccsucces as writers, he doesn't have the PERSONALITY to be a star. Homie's been around for what, five years now? And we know next to nothing about him. That doesn't really work today. You gotta give the public SOMETHING to latch on to other than music to hit that next level of success.
