Up until that album, he could do no wrong to me. Even though, I didn't like his "singing" on 808's, I still credit that album for sonically influencing mainstream rap. Without that album, So Far Gone wouldn't exist.
I feel like 808's influence on So Far Gone is overstated. :manny:

It probably is but as someone who was 16 and was totally blown away when So Far Gone dropped, I have to give 808's its credit as the foundation for that sound (and the subsequent OVO sound). Muted drums and samples being passed through low pass filters wasn't really being used widely like that until 808's came out.

I'm still a fan to this day. But what change is what I listen to Kanye for. I first liked Kanye cuz he was putting messages into music but he was also a regular nikka who liked Ralph Lauren, nice cars and women. Something I could relate when I was conflicted because when I was rhyming I would do this pro black stuff but still liked Jordans and Ralph Lauren and women too. So he made a lane where you can still say pro black stuff and not be one dimensional.

After his moms passed the message stop and lyrics became questionable. Then I became a fan of how he makes and produces his albums. MDBTF was the start of it. Then yeezus came and it was like nothing I've heard before (whether it was trash or not) and same with TLOP, 808, The Good music compilation, all stellar production.
