Although i agree with people sleeping on RTD as a whole,i'd still say it's a classic in an impact country grammer-ish type of fashionthe Universal classics are:
The Chronic
Doggystyle (even thou its somewhat overrated imo)
Me against the world
It takes a nation of millions
Paid in full
i love illmatic,OB4CL & Enter the 36 chambers, but they're regional classics..those albums weren't felt as much overall outside of the east
biggie brought the east back during the west coast takeover..none of the aforementioned albums were able to do so..and ready to die only has universally accepted classic tracks, but the overall album isnt classic because outside of the well-known singles, most people don't know shyt about that album
Glad you were only giving these bad choices in order to prove a point
I'd say alot of these were regional classics that went on to become national classics.
You are correct, but one thing I will say is that all across the nation you have fans who consider themselves "backpackers",most of them pretty much practice group think and just accept everything classic that they've been told is classic over the years...Those albums that that hiphop nerds and media have proclaimed to be classics, which tend to be east coast albums
.
So nationally you can always find people who will think these east coast regional classics were national classics, because theeres some backpackers everywhere that will cosign they were listening to it in the south,or out west, but to me that doesn't make it not a regional album..
Alotta that fanbase is nikkas thats fans of east coast rap who listened to everything that came out the east, and just happened to grow up in the wrong region,ya vote don't count on wether or not a album is regional or not![]()
Of course. Consensus.Saying you like an album doesnt mean it was a classic or had a certain impact either.
Problem is you dont know the consensus but THINK u do. You think what happened in your box = the world.Of course. Consensus.
What happened in your town is irrelevant.Problem is you dont know the consensus but THINK u do. You think what happened in your box = the world.
You could say the same to me. But there's a difference. I'm not from a bias town where the media nikkas try to belittle certain regions in an attempt to make the home team look superior.
This is what makes me turn to facts, leaving opinion in the rear.
I'm trying to spark your mind.
You know what them albums OB4CL and Illmatic meant to you and people around you..
Ice cream man is a street album,it wasnt on some pop shyt. It didnt have a fancy roll out or some type of big media push. Despite that it sold what it sold. What do you think this album did to the people that DID fukk WITH IT? Nothing? You dont think that there are a ton of nikkas in their mid 30's that remember this as a big event when it was out?
You really think all these albums that were matching or outselling illmatic,OB4CL were not classic to people?
Based off what? Magazines, disc jockey's,your partners? They lied to you.
that's why you can regularly see east coast albums with limited success, get placed alongside or above albums from other regions with much greater success, But never the other way around.

Sales don't matter.IF THESE nikkaS ARE BEING OUTSOLD BUY OTHER STREET RAPPERS,NATIONALLY,THEN IT'S NOT JUST MY TOWN
Your argument would make sense if hip hop records could only be purchased by core fans who had the opportunity to hear every record in existence and the purchase only one that was the classic. But we both know that's not how it happens.RECORD SALES DON'T DIRECTLY DETERMINE WHICH ALBUM IS BETTER. BUT THEY DO SHOW WHICH ARTIST HAD THEIR FANS BACKING UP THEIR INTEREST IN THEM VIA THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY. I REMEMBER SOME OF MY EMPLOYEES WHOM WERE PROBABLY MAKING AROUND 5$ AN HOUR BACK THEN,RUSHING TO BUY A NO LIMIT CD(S) EVERY PAYDAY. I'M SURE SPENDING THAT MONEY MEANT SOMETHING.
How is this evidence of an overarching brainwashing campaign?NOBODIES MAKING UP ANYTHING. PAC TALKED ABOUT nikkaS ON THE RADIO WHILE HE WAS IN JAIL,MOCKING THE WEST COAST. DO I HAVE PROOF OF THAT,NAW. WHAT IT DO HAVE ARE MANY REASONS TO BELIEVE IT'S TRUE THOUGH. YOU GOT FLEX WHOM HAS BEEN THE RADIO DJ DON IN NY FOR DECADES,DISSING 2PAC OVER 15 YEARS A
Same.YOU GOT COMBAT JACK WHOM PROBABLY HAS THE MOST CELEBRATED PODCAST AS FAR AS OUR FORUM,WRITING ARTICLES TRYING TO shyt ON HIS WHOLE EXISTENCE NEARLY A DECADE AFTER HE DIED.

How is that propaganda?OK BUT A MAGAZINE CROWNING AN ALBUM OR VARIOUS nikkaS THAT GREW UP ON THE EAST,PRAISING CERTAIN UNSUCCESSFUL EAST COAST ALBUMS IN THE ARTICLES THEY WRITE,OR ON THE RADIO SHOWS THEY'RE ON DOESNT MEAN THE COUNTRY FELT LIKE THAT.
IT'S ACTUALLY PROPAGANDA

Record sales don't mean anything.

I REMEMBER SOME OF MY EMPLOYEES WHOM WERE PROBABLY MAKING AROUND 5$ AN HOUR BACK THEN,RUSHING TO BUY A NO LIMIT CD(S) EVERY PAYDAY. I'M SURE SPENDING THAT MONEY MEANT SOMETHING.
NOW SOMETIMES IT IS UNFAIR TO USE THE SALES ARGUMENT. SOME ARTIST GET A BLATANTLY BIGGER PUSH,SOME ARE COMING FROM A ALREADY HOT CREW,SOME MIGHT BE INDEPENDENT VS BEING ON A MAJOR. BUT WHEN YOU GOT A nikka LIKE P WHOM WASNT WALKED IN WITH A BIG COSIGN,MADE HIMSELF HOT AND SOLD BETTER THAN ILLMATIC AND OB4CL WITH HIS ICE CREAM MAN ALBUM,THAT MEANS SOMETHING. BECAUSE HONESTLY IF ANYONE HAD AN ADVANTAGE,IT WAS THEM.
BE CLEAR,WHEN I MENTION SALES I'M NOT SAYING THAT MEANS AN ALBUM IS BETTER . I'M TRYING TO PAINT THE PICTURE OF WHICH ALBUM WAS REALLY HOT OUT HERE.
I THINK ILLMATIC AND OB4CL ARE NOT ALL THAT,NOT CAUSE OF THEIR SALES BUT BECAUSE I DONT LIKE THE (OVERALL) PRODUCTION ON EITHER ALBUM AND RAEKWON GENERALLY IS AVERAGE AS fukk ON THE MIC.
Your issue is your obsession with a non existent overarching media conspiracy to brainwash (that you have zero evidence of). Because of the obsession with this conspiracy that doesn't exist, you ignore all evidence other than record sales.

HERE'S SOME QUOTES: (Even the “breakout” hit single “Brenda’s Got A Baby” was pure kaa kaa, but being that that was like the first rap song dedicated in it’s entirety to every hood rat ghetto single mother across the country, it was deemed to be prolific by every baby momma alive. Eff that, that shyt was weak by any hip hop classic standard.)
(The only song on that album that comes even close to being hot is “I Get Around”, but I always saw that as being a Digital Underground song featuring Pac as their weed carrying side artist. What with his first LP being all whack, the Underground decided they would help their lil homey out, similar to how Jay Z helps his lil homey Memphis Bleek out every now and then. Production on that song was tight, Pac’s flow improved dramatically overnight, but Shock G stole the show with his classic line “I’m Shock G, the one who put the satin on your panties.” The rest of the album really really really sucked much moose cock and once again I was pissed that I spent some cash on this vile piece of cat vomit.)

Problem is, record sales aren't facts in the way you think they are. Someone buying an album is a fact. But that's it. It is not a fact that a person buying an album means that person liked the album, disliked the album, thinks it's a classic, etc.
