Naw YOU DONT GET IT.I dont think sales dictate the quality of an album alone anywhere, not just the east. I'm just pointing out that alot of albums from the east thate are called classics, really are regional classics only but have been talked up through powerful east cost media outlets and personalities.
And i'm pointing out that it's ironic THAT ONLY ON THE EAST can you have mediocre success yet have a official classic that everyone is supposed to accept as a non regional classic.
If i name a gold album from ANYWHERE but the east and say it's a classic, nikkas will object and be convinced that it was just a regional classic UNLESS it's a wanna be east coast nikka like raskass or common.
Ya'll will be so convinced that a gold album from the east,or one that took several years to go platinum,is some kind of big event but if another nikka from another region does the same thing, then it means nothing and was a regional classic at best.
I'm not saying yall pick and choose off sales. I AM SAYING,due to the blatant hater attitude of the media dj's (not MOST of the fans) etc, particularly back in the days, it takes an outsider to be HUGE in the game for you to even remotely feel the impact of what they were doing. But you guys erroneously think that your experience and views are shared with the world.
You could say i'm wrong but really just chill and ask yourself: "why is it that hardly any albums outside the east, are called classics (on here) unless they had major success or came from deathrow/ruthless"?
worldwide classics (among Hip Hop heads) outside the east coast are things like
E. 1999
AEOM
Eazy-Duz-It
Straight Outta Compton
The Predator
ATLiens
Doggystyle
The Diary
i was thinking that worldwide it might be his best known album maybe calling it classic was going too far. AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted is probably the better choice for classic
ice cream man a regional classic
so is comin out hard
resurrection a global classic even tho its chicago 2 the core
idk how to explain
Nobody cared about it in the Bay.I'm on the east and ice cream man a classic up here.
plus its a multi-regional album from jump(bay/south).
Ice Cream Manwhere you get this "yall" stuff from? I'm a biased east coast listener now?
all I'm saying is that youre lacking perspective on this.
and theres PLENTY of regional east coast classics that are considered such. you just didn't list any of em. instead you list 3 albums that a lot of people see as goat contenders.
non-east coast albums that peaked at gold or lower that are considered classics?? did those master p & geto boys albums you listed go platinum?
nah at the bolded.
not sure about that eazy-e either.
most wanted & death certificate
Why? Sales don't matter.nikkas need to ask themselves why ICE CREAM MAN went gold in 5 months and it took illmatic 18 months to do the same. Master p wasnt being crowned in powerful publications or any other media. Neither had famous guests
Master p had no famous producers. Master p didnt sample a song from the highest selling album of ALL TIMES.
I'll explain it for you. Common aint shyt and never was. Only song from that album people talk about,is the hater anthem I USED TO LOVE HER. It meant nothing when it dropped but was celebrated by nikkas whom shared common's hater attitude toward the west coast. So called global classic isnt even gold and it's been 20 years.ice cream man a regional classic
so is comin out hard
resurrection a global classic even tho its chicago 2 the core
idk how to explain
They matterd to nas which is why he turned mafioso for his next record and went popWhy? Sales don't matter.
Sure. Nas makes money off sales. You and i don't.They matterd to nas which is why he turned mafioso for his next record and went pop
Let me repeat, they mattered to nas. nikkas buying an album > nikkas swearing up and down what an album meant to themSure. Nas makes money off sales. You and i don't.
Let me repeat it. Sales don't matter.
