We can all agree that Playstation has officially won the war , so how does it compare to the Nintendo vs Sega war ?

PS3 era was the best and most competitive as I had to get every platform and online the discussions were at a boiling point leading up into the PS4/XB1 launch. XB1/PS4 era was quite hot as well, almost like a sequel that's as good as the first movie. PS5/XSX gen was pretty interesting at the beginning but around I'd say 2023 it started to feel really lopsided and after the "just 4 games" podcast it was already over.

Sega vs Nintendo because both had very different, very distinct console exclusives and flagship games, solid install bases, and cross platform games had material differences to compare.

Every genre had solid entries for both

Platformers, sonic and Mario
Beat em ups streets of Rage and final fight, plus different turtles games
Sports games and fighting games were different enough to have a favorite

There were hardware differences...SNES with arguably better graphic processing and Sega with better sound...

It was goat

Yeah , we all knew Xbox was already on life support when we entered the XSX gen , but then microsoft opened their war chest and started buying studios and it got interesting for a minute.

but when that didn't pan out , Xbox was just going through a slow death.

Can't argue that

This goes back to the discussion I started about the influence of Japanese developers with Sega, and the house music rise. SOR1-3 still have goat house soundtracks. That legacy carried over to psx

Additionally, Sega was actually constantly all-out attacking Nintendo in their marketing and we never really saw that again. Playstation vs Xbox was cordial compared to the slugfest between Nintendo and Sega.

Nintendo took the high road for the most part, but Peter Main once said the Super Scope was "perfect for hedgehog hunting" at CES :wow:

Sega Genesis vs SNES
PS1 vs N64

You essentially knew what type of gamer someone was by which console they were rocking

I never fukked with Nintendo but I respected what they had going on, especially with that N64 catalog

Sega vs SNES, because among other reasons, there was no internet back then.

everybody had a valid opinion lol. I remember bringing a pamphlet to 3rd grade showing why Nintendo was better lol
