Sega vs Nintendo because both had very different, very distinct console exclusives and flagship games, solid install bases, and cross platform games had material differences to compare.
Every genre had solid entries for both
Platformers, sonic and Mario
Beat em ups streets of Rage and final fight, plus different turtles games
Sports games and fighting games were different enough to have a favorite
There were hardware differences...SNES with arguably better graphic processing and Sega with better sound...

PS3 era was the best and most competitive as I had to get every platform and online the discussions were at a boiling point leading up into the PS4/XB1 launch. XB1/PS4 era was quite hot as well, almost like a sequel that's as good as the first movie. PS5/XSX gen was pretty interesting at the beginning but around I'd say 2023 it started to feel really lopsided and after the "just 4 games" podcast it was already over.
Can't argue thatSega had arguably better producers who made that thing sing but that sound chip was mid as fukk
