Tiger actually came back and got ranked #1 again though. He's been out with a back injury which is different.

Hasn't won a major since '08, hasn't won a PGA tour event since '13. I don't even think he's finished a tour event the past few years and he's ranked like 500th as of today

For me the only arguable answer is Hernandez. Star athlete that just signed a big deal and would be maybe a multi time champion now if still playing, and instead is in jail on three first degree murder charges all stemming from someone accidentally spilling his drink at the club.
The "Crime" section of his Wikipedia page is longer than the "Career" section and the majority of the "Crimes" are murder :deadrose:

All the "guys who were highly regarded but then sucked in the league" ones have to be from youngins. That stuff happens every single year in every era.

Roy Hibbert and Ronda Rousey are fantastic candidates.

Hibbert went from such a scary, dominant player in 2013 (22 and 10 against the champs in the ECF while being dominant defensively) to a weird complete breakdown in 2014. In the 2013 playoffs, he had one gamescore below a 5.7 (when he went for 8 points and 9 boards in Game 3 of the 1st round. He had at least 6 points and 6 boards in EVERY game). Then 2014 rolls around, and he's still great the first half of the year....starts randomly sucking every once in a while the second half...and then the bottom completely drops out in the playoffs. He had his game score go NEGATIVE six times in the playoffs, including 0 points and 0 boards in 1st Round Game 5, 0 points 2 boards in 1st Round Game 6, 0 points 0 boards in ECSF Game 1, and 0 points 5 boards in ECF Game 5. The lost ALL those games. And that doesn't even count his 1-7 game, his 2-9 game, his 2-7 game, or his 4-turnover game.

But Tiger is the best answer. Was so much more dominant than any other player had ever been, won the 2008 US Open in epic fashion with a broken leg to give him 6 majors in the last 3.5 years at just 32 years old and inevitably going to break Jack's records....and then crashes his car...and then the mistresses come out....and he never, ever wins a major again.

Fernando Torres in soccer, but that's reaching back a few years now. Looked like he would be one of the all time great strikers, definitely one of the best in the world until 2010 when he fell off. Then in 2011 he transferred to Chelsea for a record £50 million, and started missing open goals :snoop: he became so bad so quickly that if he had been a racehorse he would have been killed for the insurance money
