not for hip hop..

Sylvia Robinson just had a lil shytty label with Sugarhill.

Def Jam was a whole different beast. Music was raw. Not rapping over disco beats.

sugar hill was just a lil shytty label now?

they just rapped over disco beats?

lol. do you have any clue who was signed to that label? youre just saying whatever at this point.

lol.. no we cant.. you bumped your damn head. I wont begin to entertain a roster comparison.

anyway, my point is Def Jam rise is greater than anybody on the list in this thread.

carry on..

and again, that's not what the OP was asking.

and when talking rosters, im comparing sugar hill to def jam at a specific point of your choosing. not the whole 30 year history.

anybody care to say Funky Four plus one is better than PE? I dont think so
I can play that game too.
and there were other labels as well, btw.

ok.. I think the main start up of Def Jam was T La Rock, LL, Beasties and PE.

Sugarhill had what, Grand Master Flash and Sequence and Sugarhill for the most part. Its not even fair

also, keep in mind, im not saying that sugar hill was better but this whole idea that Russell created everything hip-hop is revisionist & outrageous.

edit: sugar hill had more than that.

Stick to who has the best story and you'll see my point. thats all Im saying

This music (mainstream wise) was only 5, 6 years old. Russell had them selling out arenas by 86 or 87 man..lol

Not Sugarhill. They were done as a label by then

so If I wanted to hear a story or wanted to see a great story, its the rise of Def Jam. Not no street nyggas who made a label and got rich quick. No Limit aint even in existence now.
