No players on this list are under pressure this year other than maybe Luka, but the absence of that elusive big/center/power forward this year will prevent the lakers from being a contending threat and from doing serious damage in the playoffs, so for this season the championship aspirations and expectations are tempered when it comes to the lakers .
And there’s no core of players this year who are under pressure to finally deliver and win a chip unlike the Brown/Tatum duo on Boston last year. Bron and curry are veterans and both first ballot hall of famers who already got multiple championship rings and have nothing left to prove anymore. Tatum, Jokic, and Giannis all already won NBA championship titles recently in this decade. No one who seriously follows the Association actually expects injury-prone, immature and inconsistent Ja Morant to take the grizzlies to the promised land. Mitchell almost always goes under the radar as people rarely talk about him anyway. Just like the Cavs don’t make the headlines often despite maintaining dominance over the league. For some reason the media and casuals aren’t interested in them. Brunson is not under scrutiny but the Knicks team as a whole are. You simply can’t lose in the first round to the Pistons, Pacers or Bucks. Unacceptable. And another second round elimination for the third straight season would be disappointing again.
But some teams are more under pressure than others to go much deeper in the playoffs, maybe the Cavs and the Knicks in the East and even though they’re a young squad in their second year of championship contention, all eyes are on the Thunder in the West. They have to win because they may never have the opportunity to have another chance again. And they have to win before the eventual salary increases. I guess Cavs/Knicks fans expect their squads to finally reach the ECF.
