Considering the impact on the industry, The Artist being confident/on top of their game ,influence, the amount of hits on the album, iconic music videos,.... An “Event” album. Albums everyone in school had

Chronic for me

Also if we are being fair..:patrice: The thread title says the THRILLER of Hip Hop.... That means a album that crossed over on a big scale. We will have to add MC Hammer. Love or hate him he sold a lot of albums and was a global star.

I chose AEOM because of the number of singles and videos that were hits. I think this album had like seven videos. Then there were the classic album cuts as well.

Edit: All of these songs had videos

California Love
California Love Remix
2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted
How Do u Want It
I Ain’t Mad Atcha (remember this video debuting after he died)
All About U

and I’ll even include Hit Em Up because that was the B-Side to How Do U Want It and it had a video during the AEOM run

I based it off of which album pretty much controlled most or a majority of the decade since Thriller ran most of the 80s.

With the exception of Puff Daddy and the Family all these albums are certifiable classics. But you gotta think EVERYONE had Thriller in rotation back then.

So I had to decide between Doggystyle and GRODT. Two albums that literally EVERYONE bought and got heavy rotation on the radio.

GRODT came out and the world stopped. So I went with that.

Thriller:
  • Influential
  • Moved Units
  • Crossed Over
  • Critical Acclaim
:patrice:

Only one of the albums listed in the OP did all of that...

Also, put Speakerboxxx/The Love Below on the list. Its way more significant than Country Grammar or No Way Out.
I don’t remember much hype for that album around everyday people :yeshrug:. Most people I know was shocked it won Album of the year in 2004. It was media hype and not genuine
