MC Hammer - Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em

You guys are talking about critically acclaimed albums. MC Hammer was as big as Michael Jackson in the early 90s. He had kids wanting to wear baggy pants, sold out stadiums etc. Dude was the first rap artist to go diamond. He had the hood and soccer moms buying his album.

fukk are you nikkas talking about? It said “Thriller” of hip hop.
This. I would argue that at one point Hammer was in the top 5 of all artists in popularity. Mike of course number 1. But Hammer was everywhere. He fully crossed over and was a mega star. To not mention his name is actually disrespectful.

The chronic by far

:mjlol: nikkas saying all eyes on me

it’s a classic , but the chronic had musicians from all coast changing they style and nikkas trying to be more gangsta even r&b nikkas like jodeci who went from North Carolina church boys wearing starter coats and hats to all of a sudden r&b bad boys with tats

If this is about the THRILLER of Hip-Hop, then the answer should be RUN-DMC's 'Raising Hell'.

The same way that Thriller changed the sound of r&b and pop, Raising Hell changed the look and sound of rap. Fun fact, not only was Michael Jackson the first Black artist played on MTV, RUN-DMC was the first rap group played on the channel. The Kings from Queens were the group who got rap played in Utah & Oregon while little Billy was watching music videos.
As far as longevity, "My Adidas", "It's Tricky", & "You Be Illin'" still crank, and you "Walk This Way" is still being played over the PA system at your favorite sporting event.

Honorable mentions:
Eric B. & Rakim - "Paid In Full"
De La Soul - "3 Feet High and Rising"
Public Enemy - "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back"
Ice Cube - "Amerikkka's Most Wanted"
Nas - "Illmatic"

Changed my vote to MC Hammer. If you were not around back then there is no way you could understand. Hell you could not even understand the impact of Thriller. With Michael you just could not escape him. He infiltrated every corner of society except for probably Amish brehs. Hammer was the hip hop version of this. On a smaller scale to be sure but he was a beast.

50s album has to be near the top here. shyt had parents asking their kids about him. Just crazy mainstream appeal that after years later I realize just how huge that album was and how it changed the game.
