Do we have a definitive list of rappers that freestyle their entire songs? Or punch in? I'm pretty sure we all know of jay and Wayne, snoop, but who else? I'm thinking chief keef herb andbibby not sure of who else

Too many. These rappers are not skillful enough to "truly" freestyle a song. shyt, 99.9% of rappers can't do that. And I don't think many of them are memorizing full 16's in their head without writing like Jay, and laying them down once in the studio

I think the rappers who do "freeystyle" are punching in a few bars at a time. For example, coming up with 3-4 bars in your head, then going to lay it down. Then chilling, smoking, whatever, and progressively adding more bars until they have a 16.

I actually like this method, because it's organic. But a lot of these rappers use this method and there music is trash. Basically, because they don't take their craft serious enough. For Christ sakes, it's not even cool for a rapper to admit that he is a rapper:mjlol: It's a bunch of hustlas/gangsters that just happen to rap:stopitslime:

The question should be more who freestyles their shyt and manages to make dope music out of it.
Its a difference between for example snoop freestyling classic songs like Tha Shiznit & Gz & Hustlaz and those weirdo fakkits nowdays mumblin their fakkit bars even a drunk hobo could come up with into a mic

Styles P doesn't writehis rhymes down but I do not know the details of how he writes. I think he does the same thing as Jay

No doubt, a lot of these rappers ar flat out lying with that "I don't write" bullshyt. Hov and Bigge influenced a lot of these dude's to run with that shyt. I bet a lot of these "I don't write" nikkas probably don't even know that Jay was the one that kind of popularized that, then everybody and they momma didn't write:rudy:

With that said, I do think that a lot of these rappers are just using the punch in method without writing stuff down. The first rapper that I saw footgae of doing that was Lil Wayne on a documentary when he was overseas recording or something. And I have heard verses where a rapper was definitely freestyling. But if I can tell you're freestyling, that's bad. Now and days a lot of rappers have that non cohesive style where they really ain't saying shyt or sticking to a topic, but instead just saying random "hot" lines. Those are the ones that are freestyling/punching in. I definitely don't think Young Thug or Future writes.

To your point about studio time, a lot of these rappers ain't trying to get in and get out like an independent rapper watching the clock. Yeah, it's likely a cost that's gonna be charged back to them, but a lot of rappers ain't worried bout having to recoup studio time. Some of these dudes be in the studio playing, and some be in and out like a job. Plus, damn near every rapper has a home studio to craft songs or rough copies, so time is not really a factor.

Thug punches in and only raps a couple bars at a time, he'll repeat a line a few times to get the perfect take if he needs to. I posted a vid of him working on a verse before but I don't think I could find it again
