2015 is her strongest case and even if they didn’t go with the outside pick of Beck, Sam Smith had a strong case and had his album been chosen, it would “make sense” given how big he was that year. He was their male Adele :heh:

Beyonce was a major album and a game changer but the one weakness that could’ve also contributed to it not winning was it only spurred one real Hit Single - Drunk In Love. They were actually banking on XO to be the hit as it was sent to top 40 and Drunk in Love to urban, but XO didn’t crack the top 40. Not sure if any of this was taken into account, but I remember discussing IRT how much we played that album but yet it felt like it only had one radio song compared to DIL, Bday, IASF, and even 4.

Also: it’s very unserious how award shows have grown to nominating 7-10 albums/songs/movies/shows in a category. Pick 5 and stand on it

I look at those years and other album’s and even though 2015 and 2017 are strong cases, did she really have the best album of the year?

Beyoncé is the definition of too big to fail. She does make quality music and is already more legendary than most people she’s nominated against, but it’s hard to separate her mega stardom from her art and still be subjective.

I fully expected Beyonce to win for "Lemonade" because of the impact it had that year between the songs, the videos...which followed the elevator incident.

Could've won for the double album "Beyonce" too. How good was Beck's "Morning Phase" album? Honest question.

Look at this list and then add Beyonce

That is an insane ratio considering there have been 65 album of the year awards handed out.

Especially when you consider how much influence hip-hop has had over 40 years, but only 2 Album of the Year awards (Lauryn Hill and Outkast).

I don't know how people put up with the obvious disrespect. It's very blatant.

Of course, they need Beyonce and everyone else to show up to drive ratings up though.

They do it all the time: when Black artists dominate a year on the charts, the Grammy's hold back giving them awards to finalize a terrific run.
However, a white artist does the same thing and they're getting showered with awards the whole night, solidiying a "mAgniFiceNt, caPtivatiNg" year.

I halfway expect the Grammy's to eventually give Beyonce the main award (maybe), but it'll be when her star and influence wades, maybe at the expense of a newer Black artist who really lit the charts up and many deem "next" or has won the people's hearts worldwide.

Shangri-La
Ths only thing I can think of that the Academy voters might dislike about her songs/albums is how much/many writers and producers she relies on to create her sound. But she def was robbed in 2015. Didn’t listen to Beck and likely won’t but they def have a general bias towards “originality.”

Adele is so boring to me, I might have liked a handful of songs but another music darling.
