People are saying he is not smart based on his post-championship interview and his legal troubles Pacman Jones was on the dean's list at West Virginia and Tim Tebow won several academic awards but not too many people think that they are smart.
Í can't remember where I read it but it has been suggested that as a condition of hiring, Jim Harbaugh had Stanford lower the academic requirements for athletes (or at least the football players).
Here is a graph of Stanford applicants. Someone with a 4.0 gpa and 15 ACT score and someone with a 3.25 gpa and 18 ACT were accepted and chose to attend. As long as they didn't major in STEM, they wouldn't have had much trouble getting good grades because most of the grades given at Stanford are As and Bs. I would suggest these two students are either athletes or have wealthy parents.
