But to the people wondering why anyone would go to Oregon. Portland is crazy nice and it’s booming in the tech space right now and cost of living isn’t as bad as Cali.

Nobody been victim blaming or trolling. The people like you and the others who disagree with me and other posters with similar thoughts need to realize it is no benefit in being a token black in a crowd of whites. I don’t know all this agent bullshyt and low IQ I’m a proud black man who graduated from a HBCU (Fayetteville State University) so miss me with that bullshyt. No body victim blamed that man, that man is gone. Nothing will bring him back all we can do is HOPE FOR JUSTICE and it’s a 50/50 chance he’ll get that. So we have to use these moments as cautionary tales. Never get too comfortable with white people or that negro wake up call will be waiting on you. Like this brotha lives in a city with a population of 90% whites. I’m sure he faced racism and never noticed. I’m positive he been a store and they paid close attention to him while he was shopping. In his head he probably thought they acted like that with everyone to make sure they won’t steal. That’s because he naive, that’s why he was put HIMSELF in that position. He’s in a town that’s 90% white, he thinks it’s good idea to go solo to a bar full of whites, get drunk and flirt with a white woman. He is not the first token black to get disrespected or assaulted or murdered and he won’t be last. If this was a white man who murdered another white man in a bar fight over a woman. They would’ve locked him up for murder on spot and wouldn’t take no TicTok public outrage video to make them react. People like you need to realize it’s not victim blaming to remind people we are not on equal footing with whites. We have to work twice as hard to get half as much. That’s not saying you can’t live your life and enjoy yourself. But you have to know how to move as black man in this world. That’s like a crip walking in a blood neighborhood with his flag out. You shouldn’t put yourself in that position. That’s easily avoidable with common sense. It’s just not in your best interest.

His mom said that he called her complaining about some racist stuff being directed at him, possibly from the shooter, a couple weeks before this. While there's some assumptions on your part about who Barry was, I do agree with the fact that he shouldn't have been so naive about how far some of them are still ultimately willing to take shyt when it comes their insecurities and misplaced hatred. He was also only 22 years old and that generation has a very different view when it comes to race relations in this country from what I've observed.

Ain't no brother (tough or soft), especially one the way this brother was described. is going to give a White dude a black eye in front of a White crowd, unless hands were laid on him first. We all know that, especially when you know the White dude started it after the brother hollered at the White girl. If the brother didn't back up off the White girl, then perhaps the White girl didn't even have a relationship with that White dude to begin with. Imagine some random White punk telling you to get away from a girl that he's not even dating, just because you're Black, and you complimented her. No where in this story am I seeing anything proving that White dude had a romantic relationship with this White girl. All we know is she and he are both White.

Like i had mentioned earlier, his mom had mentioned that he had a racial harassment incident prior to this happening that may (or may not) have been connected to the shooter. Barry did have a friend with him at the time, so thankfully we can hear a second side to the story eventually.

I was living in the outskirts. What I considered to be the quiet part of town

I am not from OH so I could hardly just pick a hood and move to it.

I ended up deciding that I would prefer the hood, but MY hood. Back where I'm from

yea if you on the outskirts of cities, like far outskirts It becomes less populated with us, but the entire Midwest, what I consider say St. Louis east to Cleveland, black people flood that area city wise…. Much like the Atlantic coast line

People right now are tense. That's why I don't fukk with any sort of road rage incidents or escalate situations.

I carry part of the time but feel like I should carry more with the way things are going. You have to be EXTRA cautious as a Black man. Head on a swivel for sure.

I've been to Bend, Oregon. It was alright. The more rural you get the more Trump supporters you can run into. Portland is entirely different from the rest of the state.

I'm going to his funeral this wednesday. It's sad because those dog tags he's wearing in all his pictures were his father's who died when he was young. His mom wants to bury them with him, but they're still in the evidence locker up in bend

His mom posted a vague post on fb the other night saying that she got some more news about the incident that got her more heated than she already was.

Turns out that I've actually posted a picture of him on here before (Front row, right of center, there's a gap with me sitting to the left and him sitting to the right)

Gotta say again rest in peace to the brother. Not to victim blame but Black folks need to stop thinking that we can get out on top of these altercations with white boys because we're black. These folks are out on the range several times a week, some doing MMA, etc. That shyt is "fun" to them. The brother getting killed over this shyt was senseless but the world is cold.
