That's the biggest problem really. When it comes down to it, will you be able to talk to them about your everyday life/experience like you would a black woman?

It took my girl a while to understand, because even though she was raised in a very multicultural background, grew up with pakistani, black friends etc... she didn't understand that when I told her something I was going through it wasn't because I blamed her or wanted her to fix it.

So she would just cry and get upset because she felt bad for it or didn't know what to say about it...I had to be like

I'm not going to stop sharing my life with you just because you get upset. If you don't like it, you can walk. I'm not changing as a black man you have to put up with a lot of shyt.

Now she can handle it, it's not awkward like it was where she had that whitewashed understanding of multiculturalism and didn't get it.

Granted, we watched a lot of Black folks docs and stuff I wouldn't have to do with a black gal...

She wasn't some ignorant racist bytch though, so it wasn't like I had to pull her leg. She wanted to understand...all of her former boyfriends were people of color, Muslims, Indians etc... she never dated a white guy before, but I was her first serious long term relationship with a black man.

Most of these relationships don't work because white folks will never completely get us, no matter how understanding they are...and you end up having to accept that no matter how much they read, no matter how many people they talk to, no matter where they grew up or knew people in the hood etc... they will never completely get it.

And she has the most unique background of any white person I've ever met, educated but grew up among blacks, indians, asians, etc... and has lived all over the world. So...she's not your everyday woman.

I love her, but deep down I know this will always be a problem between us...it's not because she doesn't try or care, but she'll never be a black woman with that common black experience.

I know that if I stay with her I will have to give up that expectation of complete commonality and happiness I can only get from another black woman who's experienced it.

It's sad, because she's not demonic or some lie to your face bytch, she's a good decent person, we got mad stuff in common, been together for years and love each other. I for real don't even think about her as being a Russian gal, never think of it. But if you are in a relationship like this you have to be willing to give up that part...which is some bullshyt.
