I live in Cook County (the one w/ the largest black line).

Ive been caught w/ weed by cops and have been let go...I got a friend who had a half pound in his backpack while smoking a blunt (:snoop:), cops rolled up on him and searched his bag. Dude only had to go to lock up and was out the same night...shyt got expunged from his record. Cops really only use weed to use proper cause to search your vehicle for other shyt. They arent really trippin if the only thing on you is a dime bag and you getting high on the lake.

I used to work in a restaurant and a gang of us (pretty much all black) would smoke downtown w/ no issues.
You can even ask a police officer and they will tell you how they use weed to find other things on people...they arent just going around locking cats up for getting high.

While statistics seem to show major racial disparity across the board when it comes to drugs and punishment, there are ways that clear-minded Black folks can stop declaring the obvious and start making money off of them like they do on us.

These white people go crazy whenever a new company announces that they're dipping a toe into the marijuana industry.

When they go crazy, I become very interested.

We all know this whole situation has been nothing but bad news for Black folks here. I say it's time that we get up and empower ourselves. Because just talking about how fukked up shyt is has never fixed our situation.

Matter of fact, I feel that they want us to keep talking about how dire shyt is.

There's big money to be made out there.

Much respect.

I hate being the a$$hole, but I'm gonna play devil's advocate here.

the stats that I've seen in here are kinda skewed, we shouldn't be looking at the ARREST RATE between blacks and whites.
cuz that isn't really the argument now is it?

IMO, if you are breaking the law you are taking that chance that you will be arrested. it really doesn't matter what the next man does.
just because white ppl get away with it more often doesn't mean that blacks should NOT be still arrested for breaking the law

we KNOW there is racism. we know that the law is skewed against minorities. so why even take that chance? we know that blacks have it tougher in courts. we know that cops are targeting minorities more. so why make it easy on them by falling in their trap?

this is like being mad at the cop that pulled you over for driving 100 mph on a highway when there are clearly other drivers doing the same thing.

It's about equality!!!!!! EQUALITY!

Why should we be getting arrested for something at five times the rate of white people and charged at five times the rate of white people for something they can do just fine without even having to worry due to laws, racial, privilege etc?

This is the type of thinking the powers that be want. Take away you're rights and privileges (what little you have) little by little, demobilize you, and make you docile and subservient and willing to not stand up for yourself...not to offend anyone.

Don't risk it..don't do it...while others do it fine...and don't get caught....and justify injustice against us just cause...why think like this?

I should have the right to smoke weed whereever I want and I should have the right to wear what I want and no racist ass government or officials or whatever can stop me from doing something that doesn't harm anybody!

I'm not falling into these traps...I refuse to I too old for that.

If they're only pulling over black drivers, the end result is the same

As you know, they've decriminalized weed in DC - soon it will be a simple fine. What you're saying holds weight. In D.C. black males were 8x more likely to get arrested for marijuana than non black males.

it's a tragedy and you're right - they caking now off it.

what am I gonna do? Light that shyt up bruh.

So......now that weed has been decriminalized in certain states/cities......are all those people who got criminal records because of marijuana gonna get their records expunged or naw? :patrice:

most likely not, because it was still a crime when they committed it. On a federal level, its still illegal tho. So even if the state pardons they still have that fed time.

Norfeast groovin…
Funny enough I was talkin about this over some power pack with a friend. The irony of cacs becoming wealthy from an industry that ruined millions of black lives is so America. The legalized Weed business should be non-violent drug offenders get out of jail/having a record card and the dealers of weed should be gettin first dibs. But then I remember that the Drug War was really a war on the black community and the social rights movements of the 70s and everything makes sense again, you making your thread pointing this shyt out just shows that the American Machine works as well as it did after every civil rights "breakthrough".

Actually the Black Caucus (most of them) voted for those laws.

This dude breaks down drugs in a real way in this interview

whats the relevance? Because the black caucus supported the laws it makes them any less racist? Black caucus was wrong....Africans sold some slaves to whites, and there were blacks who lived in the house and enforced things for masta...does that make slavery any less racist?

Not sure where to put this thread. If it needs to be moved, mods, please move it...

But was there any talk or mention of how whites (men in particular) are making marijuana a cash crop making millions (hundreds presumably) getting weed "legalized" being praised for making local govts money.

Yet hundreds of thousands of colored men (and women) sit rotting in prison for possession of the very same "drug." And if they aren't sitting in prison they're caught up in the legal system in some way (probation, just released, etc) a lot of these folks don't have any violent criminal history just caught with the wrong plant at the wrong time...

The "war on drugs" has just stopped all of a sudden and now white men can profit from the very drug that's got some colored folks 5-10 years on the humble.

This isn't new either, we get busted for "drug sales" but cats at the big pharm corps make hundreds of millions selling cocaine or weed "pills" (ie prescription drugs)

Don't give me the bullcrap that we need to pull our pants up or stop killing each other. Look right in front of you, the very reason why ya lil cousin, brother, friend is locked up; there's some (white) man out there making millions in a dispensary selling that same thing.

The fix is on brehs and brehettes... They not hiding it anymore. The system keeping you down is out it's no secret. How do you feel about that? What can you do? What will you do?

Edit: forgot the link it's alternet.org and it's in the drug section. Sorry I couldn't do this better, I'm on my iPad doing this

ok...so brehs were forced to have weed and break the law?:patrice:
