Who brought out the best in Aaliyah? Timbaland or R. Kelly?

Aaliyah’s career was on the decline when she passed. She has some classics but people love overstating her popularity. Her posthumous album barely went platinum at a time when artist were doing numbers. Aaliyah wasn’t a great singer, she couldn’t dance, and her stage performances were low energy and underwhelming to say the least.
Her career was not on the decline when she passed. The Red album was sitting at gold certified after only one month and it had marked the highest first week sales of her career.

Definitely R.Kelly, I still listen to that album:

I prefer R. Kelly’s production anyway. I love the shyt he did with Aaliyah and changing faces

If you like that pure traditional r&b sound you’ll go with Kellz, if you want more of a crossover sound you’ll probably before tim

I think she could've had a decent career in movies

Timbaland’s stuff was a brand new funk…. She caught lightning in a bottle with Timbaland

Glad that JD and Puff didn’t do it.

Timbaland had that potent product that was strong enough to attract Jay-Z who has used Tim for most of his albums.

as wrong as it may sound, i think aaliyah's time with kellz helped put her on the path for success. he knew how to make good music and he knew what it sounded like. aaliyah took that to another level with timbo.

i remember her passing away then it seemed like left eye died right after that. beautiful souls gone too soon.

This is how I feel as well.

I respect the work she did with Timbaland but I always thought her best music was made with R. Kelly. That first album is tainted but that shyt is a classic at the core of it. The title track itself is probably the smoothest track in her catalog.

:ohhh:
