Syd Barrett (original member of Pink Floyd who lost his mind to the 60s and got kicked out.)

just was listenin' to wish you were here :ohlawd:

it's a shame syd didn't really get to be apart of pink (even though he was the heart of the group) once they actually made it successfully as a band

but yeah, syd was the definition of "trippy". the story bout him visitin' abbey roads studios when pink was recordin' wish you were here is a sad one :to:

his story is a wild and sad one. sly had it all one point. prince before prince, even better than prince imo though

but yeah, drugs did him in a loooooong time ago. when i heard bout him livin' in an rv i was like :why::snoop:

here's a thread i just did on sly and the family stone

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/the-...artists-they-not-even-hip-hop-artists.239128/

Yea before Unsung I knew about most of their hits but not much of Sly's individual story. It was interesting to see how he brought a bunch of talent together and each piece fit perfect. It's like he knew exactly what was needed where and at what time.

sly was visionary. sly was a bandleader, talent scout, singer, songwriter, producer and arranger. i'm tellin' you, he was prince before prince. but better imo. he just had a knack for knowin' how to make it all work and what would fit and what wouldn't. he also broke new ground by havin' a band of both men and women who were black and white, remember this was the 60's when they started and how controversial that was

sly was the man in his day :wow:

They're the highest selling rap group of alltime. They've got grammy's. They just fell off like every rap group does.

and if you didnt live thru that time-zone, theres a good chance you have no clue about any of that. to alot of newer listeners, theyre just the guys that made crossroads & 1st of the month.

basically all thats taught from that era is death row & bad boy, the wutang logo, that nas was around, and somehow outkast are now supposed to be all-timers all of a sudden.

that my friend, is the definition of unsung.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond is that fire :wow:

Yeah.. Ive heard it said that Barrett wasnt right for the band. He was stuck in the 60s when the rest of the band was trying to innovate and push rock forward. Still a talented dude though.

What where they showed him SOYCD and he called it bullshyt not realizing it's about him? Yeah, shyt is pretty messed up.... I think thats actually the last time they saw him :damn:

Skip Spence has a similar story but he was an even more promising musician. Like possibly the best out of San Francisco. Maybe 2nd to Jerry Garcia.
