It's not too late to get into IT. It just depends on how ambitious you are and how serious you are about self development. Because you'll need a lot of it if you want to advance.
But how long will it be before you get replaced?
:sas2:

And how much money will you get paid? With everyone globally pursuing the same jobs?
:sas2:

Anyone just starting out is gonna have hell of a time. It's probably 10x harder now than when I started in this field.

What sort of courses would you recommend?
This is what got me into IT. It's a start but there's much to learn. You can probably find the course for free somewhere tbh. I wouldn't pay for it.

I agree. That's why I mentioned it depends on how ambitious he is. I graduated in 2020 and the salaries that I was seeing then vs now, and with even how more saturated entry level IT is, it's gonna be tough. But it's worth it someone really wants to make it in IT. There's still money and opportunity for those who can survive the help desk.

I am working on my BA on Compiter Science right now
2025 I am going to work on my certs.
2026 I will reach my goal amd graduate.
If you can, work on the degree and the certs. Even with my degree in Computer Science, it took me like 6-8 months to get a basic help desk job. That underpaid me. These companies are looking for experience.

I need to get serious about it and schedule a couple of tests. I’m not really interested in it, but I’m focusing on Azure and networking. After I pass those, I’ll look into security.

Would you recommend GovTech for those with security clearances?

I am a 25B in the army with no experience, but if I get my sec+ do you think I can get in with the government?

I’ll get my sec+ regardless but I wonder if there’s a market for me with a secret clearance but no experience.

Security+ in the minimum for any cleared job. They even made non-technical people working for the DOD get certified.

The problem is there is a ton of discrimination in getting these Federal cyber jobs. For example veteran preference is supposed to mean something in job reqs. But I've seen it routinely ignored by hiring managers. The Federal hiring process is as corrupt as they come.

I will :yeshrug:

currently I work in manufacturing as a technician and I make good money and with OT I easily make 6 figures. I always wanted to work in IT. I went to school for computer science YEARS ago but recession hit me HARD :flabbynsick:. Took years to recover. I'm in a good place now and Im secure financially even if Trump fukks it up.

I'll start off with the trifecta and go from there :mjlit:

First semester back in college for a IT Cybersecurity program and got my A+. Currently studying for the new version of the Network+. After that Security+, Project+ and the rest while trying to finish my Degree the first half of 2026. Looking to transition over into Healthcare IT when I'm done but will probably need to move into a Project Manager role first or take on an additional part-time IT role to avoid a paycut starting off with Helpdesk Full Time.
