I hate these threads because its subjective. Jay Z fans are going to say Nas and Nas fans are gojng to say Jay Z. This will be the argument from both sides:

Nas- the beats were wack; something something HitBoy, something something Salaam Remi, something something "You Owe Me", something something "Oochie Wally".

Jay Z- music didn't age well, something something "Ghetto Techno", something something Beyonce, something something media, something something never was the hottest, something something carried by production
Thats why i dont base it on my opinion. I use the people. If Jay had all these “mid” “wack” albums like people say he would been fell off. I saw alot of disappointment about him not having a verse on Clipse album. While majority just brushed over a actual confirmed feature.

I mean seriously yall feel Nas the goat right? He never fell off to yall. But why did he stop selling records by 2004 at a elite level?

Don’t include me in your on going quest for war :hubie:

I just sit back and watch y’all argue these days

I done got too old for the back and forth shenanigans :flabbynsick:

Outside of OutKast, who dropped one other album after 2004, Snoop whose last platinum album dropped in 2004, who else from that era was platinum besides Jay Z?

Also of note, its not like Nas was dropping singles that were going to get major radio play. "Hero" and "We Make The World Go Round" were literally the last songs he dropped that were blatant commercial attempts. Nas's highest charting singles came late in his career ("Made You Look" and "I Can"). Neither followed the formula at the time.

You proving my point. He didnt need those party records to sell. He sold off the strength of his albums. When the albums fell off the sales fell off. After that jolt in his arm from the beef. His albums started declining again

I like godson but stillmatic wins
Godson was wayyyy better than SD

Hiphop is dead was on par with SD

Untitled was no different

Life is good bounced back

Then he fell off a cliff with Nasir

Then he proceeded to drop 6 albums of nothing (no offense)

So you admit, he was still elite. Only one artist from his era was selling more albums.

Exactly because that one artist didnt fall off to the public

All those other guys did

Kind of like how LL left all his 80 counterparts in the dust and was still moving units in 2000

I have theory if your fans think u have 2 or 3 drop offs consecutively. You get tagged

50 4th album was BISD
X 4th album Great Depression
Nas 4th album Nastradamus

All 3 of them albums got worse after each release leading up to their 4th album

I don't know what point you are making by bringing up X and 50. They never recovered. Nas's fifth album was like his third best-selling album which came after Nastradamus. He was still selling albums well into the 2010's. His numbers were comparable to 2000's LL Cool J. And since we're on the subject of LL, he put consecutive weak albums that still sold.

Nas got his career revive by a beef. But after that beef was over. The decline continued

LL never had 3 straight albums of decline

I was listening to 4:40 or jays last album the other day and thinking how fukking mid and forgettable this is. Jay has so much trash in his discography. And that’s even counting his collabs(that awful Beyoncé album, the R. Kelly joints) Nas has some garbage too but Jay’s is much worse
