If you make under 60k, any paid tax software should have a free version to file

I use a CPA though may need to see if it's worth it as I only have the employment W-2 and use the 1099 forms? for Fidelity (IRA, WeBull, TD Ameritrade and M1).

Anyone do theirs, is a bit complex (self employed, contract of FT employee), plus investments?

I'm going to try this year via IRS directly because I'm sick of TurboTax charging me $80 JUST for having a 1099-B, fukk.

You should do them. It's pretty easy if it's as you say. And to be honest even using a software app would save money for you.

I do my own too.

I made at least 750 trades last year, they let you sign into your account depending on who you use so it imports automatically. Also you can import files. They have your previous returns and you can access it.

Definitely a deal breaker for me if the software can't do this. I didn't trade as much as previous years, but saves at least 2 hours if you do a lot of trading

Turbo tax is free as long as you just are doing standard taxes

Turbo Tax is shady as hell and I don’t recommend using them at all. I’ve filed with Credit Karma for the last few years and it’s a much better process.

They basically promote "free" tax filing for but then try to rope people into paying anyway.
