I use a CPA though may need to see if it's worth it as I only have the employment W-2 and use the 1099 forms? for Fidelity (IRA, WeBull, TD Ameritrade and M1).

Anyone do theirs, is a bit complex (self employed, contract of FT employee), plus investments?

Loos like TurboTax may be the best (I have never done it on my own):

Yours doesn't actually sound that complex given the info. I would go with freetaxusa, same shyt as turbotax and wayyyy cheaper. You should do it yourself and see where you net out. No need to pay unless you file.

Have you used it?

I also live in NYC and work for a co. in NJ (state and city tax for NY & state tax for NJ).

Also, unsure about "if you file." If I forget a form or anything like that how can that be amended (other than a damn fine).

And lastly, how long does that take (gotta take me at least 2 hours)?

I've been doing my own taxes for like 15 years now so it takes me no time. If you just have a w2 and a 1099 and a few investments, it honestly sounds pretty straight forward. Even if your cpa forgets something then yeah you can file amended. Give it a try.

Thanks man.

Cannot rep. Will see what my CPA says ( I usually pay him $380, though he said this year will be higher as I must made at least 40 trades in one account alone!)

Sorry for al the questions, but am I responsible for storing the returns or do they charge extra for viewability the way the aforementioned do?

Seems real cheap to pay $100 to do it myself than to pay 4 or more times that!

I made at least 750 trades last year, they let you sign into your account depending on who you use so it imports automatically. Also you can import files. They have your previous returns and you can access it.

I think you would be fine, I would use software if I were in your shoes

also wasn't the IRS supposed to create a portal to do it for free?

why are reps turned off?

I thought intuit was supposed to make a free site, and they do it’s just hidden to high hell.

I’ve never done taxes with stocking trading involved, I guess that’s next year’s problem for me

they're responsible for giving you a 1099 for stocks

unless you're in the business of actually trading stockings in which case you may need to file a schedule c

please clarify

Thanks, but I assumed I was clear until next year. Definitely gotta check it out now

I mean you'll only have a 1099 for 2020 if you made trades in 2020. Otherwise in Feb 2022 is when they'll issue you one.
