Who in hip hop do you think listens to the most music

By within hip hop I mean like an artist, producer, dj etc that we know of.

Would it be djs that have to play records all day? Producers who also rap like Quik, Dre, Kanye? Perhaps just anyone who seems introverted like Nas. Maybe someone who collaborates a lot with artists of other genres like Snoop or those who rap and sing like Tory Lanez.


I know a lot or artists who seem to know nothing about the samples they rap over (Cam'ron in the Narduwuar interview, Cassidy talking about not even picking beats on Vladtv) but I am sure some people listen to A LOT of music. Perhaps second generation musicians like Nas.

Anyone know off hand of anyone who through music or interviews talks about listening to a lot of music.

Listens to a lot of music. From oldies to today’s rap. A lot of older producers listen to a lot of newer music. DJ Premiere talked about how he would study Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug music. Timbaland is the same way

Not hip hop but Elton John said he listens to a lot of newer music too

It would definitely be a producer . A lot of rappers have pretty generic taste. I remember when Hov would namedrop...Nirvana like that means he's got diverse taste lmao. Guys like Madlib, Just Blaze, Premo, etc are just hardcore music fans. You gotta be, to find great loops beyond James Brown.
