The reason to buy CDs is sound quality. It's just the best. Files on CDs have a bit rate of 1411kbps. Vinyl has 650kbps. Mp3 ranges from 128 (atrocious) to 192 (standard iTunes mp3s) to 320kbps.

You can have FLAC files ripped from CDs, they are lossless and are going to have the same 1411kbps bitrate. But the file sizes are absolutely enormous. A four minute track in FLAC is 42mb in size. So unless you have an mp3 player that has a huge capacity you cannot store too many songs on them. My iPod had got 64gb storage capacity and I use 320kbps mp3 because it's not big enough to fit 1500 tracks (and counting) in FLAC format.

So in order to have maximum quality songs in your ride or your home system, CD is unbeatable. Online music is not going to be above 320kbps because it would take too long to stream larger file sizes, and mp3 players don't have the capacity to support a big collection of FLACs. What you gain in the portability of mp3s and streaming you lose in sound quality. I'm happy to put up with inferior quality when I'm out, but in the ride or at home I want the best.

I havent bought a retail CD since 2006. And that was "Fishscale" by Ghostface Killah.

I still buy vinyl though. CDs are worthless to me when I have almost 50,000 songs on one portable HD.

Or you can just get the album/LP/EP digitally in .wav or .FLAC format and thats the highest sound quality you can get. Every file is mastered at 44.1khz 96000kpbs that gets pressed on vinyl and cd then when ripped from CD loses quality.

I just think CDs are worthless to have now. shyt I'd rather fukk with cassettes more than CD(there has been an indie resurgence of cassette tapes but the coli aint up on that).

If I do invest in CD it's something that's out of print or not online. Same with vinyl....but I see so many 12"s surfacing online that I used to have in my crates that was rare. I dont fukk with the radio I've always been about music you couldn't find easily in mainstream retail stores.

I'll still buy occassionally to support a artist I like.

But last time I brought a gang of CDs was a year and a half ago with Kendrick's TPAB, Fashwon's Ecology, Lupe's Testuo and Youth, Illmatic XX, Joey Badass debut and Run the Jewels 2

Before that was 3 years prior with Life is Good and 2 years prior to that getting Distant Relatives, Relapse, Big Boi album and Kanye's MBDTF

It'll be years not buying any and then I might just buy 5 tops in go just for the art and support
