As much as we like to clown on Jay, I mentioned in the "Ray Daniels: Bow Wow vs. Jay-Z" thread from earlier this year that Jay has 22 top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits & 10 multi-platinum albums. Exactly. LL and Kane caught flack for appealing to the ladies. Over the last 30 or so years it has been impossible to reach a certain level of success without appealing to women. Thats why everybody got their song for the chicks. Drake built an entire career of this. If chicks think you are handsome and/or dudes make a big enough deal about you they will follow suit. There was a time when you had chicks calling Wayne sexy.
Being a fan and liking music are not the same. They literally had a saying in A&R about rappers having to make a record for the ladies. It doesn’t mean they were going to become fans. They’re just consumers. A fan is having pictures on the wall.

I was 33 in 2013. Let’s say she’s ten years older than me. A 43 year old with an 11-13 year old makes sense. So she was 25-26 when RD dropped. Around the same age Jay was.
