For me, it would have to be David Robert Jones AKA David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust).

Why? Because his music relates to me. Especially, when he was writing about his depression and mood swings. Some of my favorite albums from him are Lodger, Reality, Earthling, Blackstar, Heathen, Young Americans and Hours.

Honorable Mentions: Bob Marley (loved his activism and passion through his music). I'm just now getting hip to Barrington Levy, Tenor Saw, and Jimi Hendrix.
